‘Modern Family’ Star Sarah Hyland Physically Abused By Ex, Fears For Her Life

Modern Family star Sarah Hyland seemed to have the perfect relationship with boyfriend Matt Prokop. They lived together, smiled on talk shows and red carpets, but there was something underneath that veneer that led to their sudden break up.

Now reports are coming in that Sarah Hyland was allegedly physically and emotionally abused by her ex-boyfriend Matt Prokop. In a bombshell report, TMZ has released court documents from a temporary restraining order, that the Modern Family actress put out against Prokop.

In the court documents Hyland accuses her ex of pinning her against a car during an argument about an outfit she was wearing at the time. TMZ quoted the heated exchange, and said Prokop, “unleashed hell… calling her “c**t, c**t, c**t” and choking her.”

In the restraining order Sarah Hyland said that she didn’t feel she was safe around her ex.

“His grip was so tight that I could not breathe or speak. I was scared and in fear for my life.”

Hyland sustained injuries during the heated exchange. In fact, she noted that she had “a very sore throat following this event.”

Following the domestic dispute, Hyland said that she had to call her Modern Family co-star and TV mom Julie Bowen. According to the site, Bowen helped the actress end her relationship in a “peaceful” way. In the documents it stated that Bowen was well aware that Sarah was in an abusive relationship with Matt Prokop.

When Prokop arrived to their home and saw Bowen, he started screaming and at one point grabbed a lighter to throw at Hyland. During this argument he threatened to set “one of her homes on fire, and threatened that she would never see her dog again.”

In the documents Sarah Hyland stated that her ex entered a rehab facility back in August, but only stayed until September 21, which is when she decided to get a restraining order against him.

Hollywood Life reported back in August that the two split after five years of dating. At the time an inside source made the break seem like the relationship had simply run its course, and was drama free.

“Sarah’s doing fine. It didn’t work out. She’s young. They decided they would be better off as friends.”

Throughout their relationship the couple shared a Maltipoo, Barkley Bixby. It’s believed that Hyland currently has custody of the four-year-old pooch in light of the domestic dispute.
