‘Criminal Minds’: Jennifer Love Hewitt’s Character Details
Actress Jennifer Love Hewitt has joined the cast of Criminal Minds. Entering season 10, the long-running drama has created plenty of new characters, and the news of Hewitt joining the television show is creating a lot of interest among fans. What role will she play and what will her character be like?
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hewitt will play Kate Callahan, an eight-year FBI vet who ends up at the Behavioral Analysis Unit due to her stellar work. She will be replacing Dr. Alex Blake, who left last season. Criminal Minds executive producer and showrunner Erica Messer gave additional details on Jennifer Love Hewitt‘s character, according to TV Guide.
“Kate is smart, charming and wise for her years. Her background is criminal psychology, and her passion comes from wanting to make the world a safe place. She’s had a lot of personal loss that makes her a patriot and a nurturing figure to those in her personal and work families.”
Jennifer will make her debut on the Criminal Minds season 10 premiere, titled “X.” In the episode, the BAU will head to Bakersfield, California to investigate a string of murders with victims that the police are unable to identify. Hewitt has played many different roles over the years, but her Criminal Minds character is a professional that takes her job seriously. She also looks the part with her hair cut short, but the actress still has her signature waves.
Photos of the Criminal Minds season 10 premiere show the actress wearing pants and a modest top. Those that have followed the actress throughout her career know that this is a very different type of attire than her characters usually wear. Another photo shows Callahan looking concerned and serious as she reads a case file.
Messer spoke of Hewitt joining the cast of Criminal Minds in a statement.
“Many of us on the show have enjoyed working with her over the years and look forward to again. We have exciting storylines planned for her character and the entire BAU team as we head into our 10th season.”
Jennifer’s character is also no stranger to the BAU, even though she is a new addition. The Criminal Minds executive producer said that Callahan is an old pal of the unit and fits rights in, just like the actress does on the set.
Criminal Minds stars Thomas Gibson, Shemar Moore, Matthew Gray Gubler, A.J. Cook, Joe Mantegna and Kristen Vangsness. CBS will air the season 10 premiere on October 1 at 9 p.m. ET.
