George Clooney’s Best Man Revealed — And It’s Not Brad Pitt
George Clooney is busy preparing for his upcoming wedding to Amal Alamuddin, and new details about their big day have emerged. It seems as though everyone wants to know about George’s wedding and have been wondering if he and Amal will have a traditional ceremony with a bridal party and the whole nine. According to multiple sources, there will be a wedding party, and the couple will be having a very big, very traditional wedding.
According to Radar Online, longtime Clooney BFF Rande Gerber will stand by his side and serve as his best man. Contrary to popular belief, Brad Pitt was not George’s first choice. While he is expected to attend (with his wife Angelina Jolie by his side, of course), Brad probably won’t be in the wedding party. As far as Amal’s maid of honor goes, she has chosen her younger sister, Tala — a traditional choice.
George Clooney and Amal Alamudding will wed in Venice, Italy, on Saturday, September 27. As previously reported by The Inquisitr, Mayor of Rome Walter Veltroni will supposedly be performing the ceremony. Clooney and Veltroni have been close friends for a long time, so the decision makes sense.
“I consider him to be a great friend, like Obama. Few people rarely have something very special, the ability for leadership, as well as great speaking skills, like Obama. In Veltroni, I felt the same power,” Clooney said of Veltroni back in 2008.
George and Amal will be fashion forward to say the least. Clooney is expected to wear a custom-made suit by Georgio Armani. Amal is rumored to be wearing an Alexander McQueen gown, though some reports suggest that Oscar de la Renta has designed her wedding dress. Perhaps she will have an outfit change and wear both designers.
Interestingly enough, George Clooney isn’t footing the bill for his big day. According to Us Weekly, Amal Alamuddin’s parents are “footing the bill.” Of course, this is traditional in wedding speak, as the bride’s family usually pays for the wedding. The groom will likely cover some other aspect, such as the rehearsal dinner, which is also customary.
Evidently Clooney (whom everyone thought would be an eternal bachelor) is extremely excited to get married. In fact, he’s the most mushy he’s been maybe ever in his adult life. While accepting an award in Florence on September 7, Clooney took a moment to acknowledge his bride-to-be in what was easily one of the most romantic speeches to ever roll off of his tongue.
“I would just like to say to my bride-to-be, Amal, that I love you very much, and I can’t wait to be your husband.”
Aw, George!
