WWE: Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts Updates Fans On Health, Praises WWE For Support
Jake “The Snake” Roberts is back on the mic and on Twitter after what he described as a “scary” bout with double pneumonia, one that also revealed his cancer had returned.
At a recent event for the Future Stars of Wrestling (FSW), Roberts addressed fans in the audience.
“Thank you God for still having me here on this planet,” he began. “For a long time, I was fighting a hell of a fight that you didn’t know about, you know, with alcohol, addiction, the demons in my mind. And it was something I tried to hide because I was ashamed, and because it hurt, and because I didn’t want you to know about it. But I’m 59 years old now, and I didn’t think I was gonna live this long or I would have taken better care of myself.”
Roberts’ entire dialogue with the audience was a bit rambling and emotional — understandable given the situation — but the message continued to be one of positivity, and that’s refreshing given the man’s history with addiction.
“I’ve been to jail, I’ve been to rehab,” he confessed, adding that in “neither of those places” has he ever met anyone that thought, “this is my dream.”
“It’s a mistake. Kids, do not pick it up. For God’s sake, don’t pick it up. It ruins your life, man. I know,” he pleaded with the audience before leaving them with one wish.
Jake “The Snake” said his wish was that for anyone in the audience who had someone they knew struggling with addiction, “Yeah, he’s a junkie so put your d*** money away, but try to help the son of a b**** okay, because one day, he won’t be around and you’ll wish you had.”
Roberts reiterated that his “helper” was former wrestler and founder of DDP Yoga “Diamond” Dallas Page. He also credited WWE with being good to him through his recent scare, stating that the company sprung for the airline ticket to send one of his kids to help their father.
Roberts then joked that with the “WWE stock hit” the company could have “probably used that five or six hundred dollars.” Here’s the full appearance — a must-watch if you’re a Jake “The Snake” Roberts fan.
