Bob Beckel’s Legs Quip To Fox’s Kimberly Guilfoyle Sexist? [Video]

The Fox News Channel’s Bob Beckel is at it again, this time over a “legs” remark. The Five co-host is under fire for a sexist comment made to Kimberly Guilfoyle that was meant as a quip, but rubbed some viewers the wrong way.

During a segment of the show, the co-hosts were discussing remarks made by the Obama administration’s new press secretary Josh Earnest, successor to Jay Carney. Beckel and his colleagues were chiming in on Earnest’s talking points on the president’s strategy on airstrikes to destroy the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (or ISIS).

The veteran analyst remarked about his fondness for Earnest over Carney, to which Guilfoyle indicated she doesn’t like the new guy.

“Just in terms of what he looks like,” she said, seemingly taking issue to Beckel’s assessment. And that’s when things took a slight turn towards anatomical parts — namely legs.

“Oh, so we’re now going on looks? That’s perfect,” Guilfoyle said.

“Yes, Kimberly, we are,” remarked former Georgie W. Bush White House press secretary Dana Perino.

“We would never do that here on ‘The Five,'” said co-host Greg Gutfeld.

Next, is the on-air bombshell from Beckel to Guilfoyle (wait for it).

“That coming out of your mouth is a little bit of a stretch. If those legs of yours were a foot shorter, d’you think you’d be here?”

Guilfoyle, clearly taken off balance by Bob Beckel’s reference to her legs, tried to make light of the situation by suggesting if her legs were shorter, she could sit in comfort behind the glass desk like Perino.

Beckel’s legs comments appear to have earned a sign of approval from Penman1.

“It sounds like Mr. Beckel has intimate knowledge of Faux News’ hiring policies and procedures. Judging by the intellectual content of Faux News’ on-air female talent (and in the media industry, if you appear ‘on-air’ or, in radio, with a microphone, you’re considered the ‘talent’), they weren’t chosen for their academic prowess or knowledge of the facts or expertise on a issue. So it’s gotta be something else… er… and Mr. Beckel’s theory is as good as anything else.”

Scores of other readers, among the status quo or from the internet troll establishment, echoed Penman’s views, but one reader emerged from the thicket and offered her take on Bob Beckel’s legs remark, according to Raw Story.

“I love Kimberly and I love the ‘Five.’ The women are gorgeous and smart. However the people making posts here are full of hate. And are vitrolic, savage, venomous, poisonous, malicious, nasty, mean, cruel, unkind, harsh, hostile, vindictive, vicious, scathing, barbed, wounding, cutting, bitchy, and catty. And women haters. I have never seen as much women hating as on these posts from the left. Yuk.”

It’s worth noting that Gabriel Sherman’s new biography of Fox boss Roger Ailes details his alleged rampant sexism among female television personalities during his long career. In the book, it talks about his makeup and dress code requirements that put them in the best light to emphasized their sexual appeal to viewers.

There’s a tale that says when a female wore pants on a segment of the show, Ailes phoned in and admonished her. “Tell Catherine I did not spend x-number of dollars on a glass desk for her to wear pant suits,” he allegedly said.

Bob Beckel’s quip on Kimberly’s legs is not the worst thing he’s ever said on national TV. Many dismiss his remarks as his personality; he’s known for speaking off the cuff. In short, many say it’s “Bob being Bob.”

Do you think his quip was meant to be sexist?
