Don’t act like the headline surprised anybody, because if the WWE Universe is well-versed on the thoughts of Vince McMahon, they know how adamant McMahon is on pushing his top stars. In the 80’s Hulk Hogan headlined almost every show. As soon as the 90’s came and went, the Rock dominated the main-event picture.
When John Cena became a household name, the WWE had their goldmine for the foreseeable future. Twelve years later, Cena is still that golden boy and the WWE refuses to let go. Well, one man is refusing to let go of that reality. McMahon is holding on to the past.
PWInsider is now reporting that McMahon keeps telling the booking team that John Cena needs to be booked better against Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman.
According to PWInsider, Vince McMahon has reportedly been drilling WWE creative on how they need to prove to John Cena’s fans that he’s still “in the fight” and not a lost cause due to the beating he took from Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam.
When Cena returned to RAW and dominated The Wyatt Family a few weeks back, we noted that Vince was responsible for Cena being booked so strong. Several people backstage reportedly voiced their opinion that Cena should not have been booked so dominant but Vince wouldn’t change his mind.
Does this news shock anyone? Cena continues to perform in the main event after 12 years of success. The West Newbury, Mass-native owns 15 WWE championships, multiple accolades, long WWE championship runs, worldwide fame and a battered body to boot. Sooner or later, McMahon will need to say goodbye to Cena.
Not only is Cena becoming hated more every show, but his act is stale. Sorry to break everyone’s bubble, but he will never turn heel. There will never be an exact reason, but my guess is that McMahon doesn’t want to re-create Hulk Hogan. Granted, Hogan turned heel in WCW, but that turning Cena heel would be recycling history.
The WWE gets enough grief from their fans about not being original. If McMahon wanted to use Cena in a creative way, find a new gimmick or motive for Cena to change his act a little bit. McMahon clearly wants Cena to succeed on Raw, hence the continuous strong booking.
It was McMahon’s idea to have Bray Wyatt gets completely demolished on Raw a few weeks ago to keep Cena relevant. Regardless of a match’s result, Cena will always be over. Just like Chris Jericho or Shawn Michaels in the past, they are always relevant. McMahon must keep Cena relevant to the fans, or they will revolt. Sometimes, the WWE Universe is all talk, but don’t discredit them. “If Cena Wins, We Riot,” started and then came back. Don’t call their bluff.
