According to the Mirror, paparazzi have been camped out by the Chelsea Old Town Hall overnight because rumors were brewing that George Clooney would marry British lawyer Amal Alamuddin there Friday. It seems there has been buzz that the two would have a simple ceremony there and then do the bigger event in Venice later this month.

However, Town Hall staff has posted a letter that seems to put those rumors to rest. The letter indicates, specifically, that they are not conducting a wedding for George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin on Friday. They add that they have no record of when the wedding will take place. While they did help with some legal preliminaries for the wedding, they are saying that was the extent of their involvement in the nuptials.

As E! Online notes, Clooney recently was heard gushing about Alamuddin at an event where he was speaking. He confirmed that the two would marry in Venice soon, and he said he loves Amal very much and can’t wait to be her husband. A guest at the event said that Alamuddin seemed overwhelmed and touched by his words, and that they looked at one another as if there was nobody else in the room. The outing at the Celebrity Fight Night event was the duo’s first red carpet outing together.

George Clooney’s engagement came as a bit of a shocker to many fans. He has been married once before, to Talia Balsam, and he famously said he would never marry again.
