Kurt Angle WWE Return Imminent? Could Direction Of Present Storyline Be An Omen For His Return?
The news of Kurt Angle possibly returning to the WWE has been hot for some time thanks to his interviews in which he hasn’t said in stone he’d return to TNA. Though technically still a part of the wrestling organization – well at least on their roster through their official website – Angle has expressed his opinions on wanting to return to the WWE. Here on The Inquisitr, we reported on such in which he turned down a TNA contract. Vince McMahon is supposedly taking a second look at having the Olympic Hero, and Kurt Angle has said himself he is a WWE guy.
However, all of this news can be considered signs of a possible WWE return for Kurt Angle. Until we actually hear the Olympic Hero’s theme song (the one with the “You Suck” lyrics) blazing high decibels at a WWE event, we can only imagine. Yet, could it be possible that WWE is setting up his return by the direction of one of their present storylines?
The above question may be a bit loaded, because any wrestler could be put into any storyline for any reason. But this storyline, or angle as they call it in WWE or any wrestling promotion, seems to fit extremely well for Kurt Angle. Not to mention, it is an angle that seems to be going in the direction for his return. I am talking about the United States versus Russia storyline featuring Rusev and Lana.
The Bleacher Report actually did a fine job reporting how Rusev’s rookie year should continue, though it will officially be done at the 2015 Royal Rumble. First, he should remain a dominating force in the WWE, possibly becoming a one-man army. A display of his power should happen at a big pay-per-view event, such as Roman Reigns did at the 2014 Royal Rumble by breaking Kane’s record of eleven superstars when Reigns’ eliminated twelve. Finally, Rusev should win the WWE United States Championship.
This timeline actually beings at the 2014 Night of Champions where it was reported by What Culture that Rusev will face off against Mark Henry. However, this timeline is just a blueprint for Rusev, therefore enter Kurt Angle. First, Angle is probably the first wrestler to truly utilize patriotism into their gimmick and have it succeed. True, there have been other wrestlers like Hulk Hogan, Sgt. Slaughter, Hacksaw Jim Duggan, and even The Patriot (Del Wilkes) who used patriotism to some extent in their careers, but Kurt Angle truly mastered it even before Jack Swagger. From his clothing, demeanor, attitude, and even his theme music and titantron, Kurt Angle surely showed off patriotism.
Of course the reason for such patriotic themes is because Kurt Angle represented the United States at the Olympics… in which he won a gold medal with a “broken freakin’ neck!” Rusev representing Russia wearing a medal around his neck and wearing Russian colors, toting a Russian flag, is no doubt the Russian version of Kurt Angle’s gimmick. It could be a gimmick versus gimmick war with WWE international consequences!
This also leads up to the second reason why this angle is being set up for Kurt Angle. Besides the United States versus Russia part, Rusev is undefeated. If Kurt Angle were to face off against him, Angle could win as a cementing of his run in the WWE. However, Rusev could win, which would help establish his character and position in the WWE. Either way, both will come out on top no matter what the outcome could be.
What do you think of the possibility that WWE is setting up for a Kurt Angle versus Rusev feud? Do you like it? Does it make sense? Would it benefit both the wrestlers and the fans or would it just be dud kind of like Big E versus Rusev was? Please let us know in the comments below.
