Madeleine McCann: New Book Suggests 3-Year-Old Was Stalked
Madeleine McCann has been missing for more than seven years. Although there is much speculation about her mysterious disappearance, her current location remains unknown. A new book, titled Looking for Madeleine, suggests the little girl may have been stalked prior to her abduction.
In May 2007, Madeleine and her family were on holiday in the Algarve region of Portugal. During their stay, the McCanns rented an apartment at the Praia de Luz resort.
On the evening of May 3, Kate and Gerry McCann made arrangements to have dinner with friends. As the open-air restaurant was less than 200 feet from the apartment, and the front door was visible from their table, so the couple left Madeleine and her two siblings inside.
Kate and Gerry said all three children were asleep when the left the apartment at 8:30 p.m. Both parents said they kept a close eye on the front door throughout the evening.
Authorities said Gerry returned to the apartment to check the children at approximate 9:05 p.m. At that time, all three children were asleep in their beds. One hour later, 3-year-old Madeleine McCann was gone.
Although the resort property and surrounding region was searched extensively, the little girl had apparently vanished without a trace. In the last seven years, Portuguese and British authorities have spent millions of dollars investigating the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.
Both agencies have followed countless leads and identified dozens of potential suspects. However, they do not seem to be any closer to solving the crime.
As reported by Express, authors Robbyn Swan and Anthony Summers believe Madeleine may have been stalked prior to her abduction. According to the book, an unknown prowler was watching the apartment in the days leading up to Madeleine McCann’s disappearance.
Swan said she learned about the prowler from “two separate witnesses.”
“[They] apparently saw a man… staring fixedly at apartment 5a. They both described him being in the same position in the street… on the very day Madeleine disappeared, a lady visiting the apartment upstairs saw… a man behaving very oddly in the lane between the apartments and the pool.”
Both witnesses, who were not identified, reportedly observed the prowler entering and leaving the resort for no apparent reason. He is described as “acting very peculiarly.”
As reported by Fox News, the disappearance of Madeleine McCann is still being investigated as an open case. Approximately 40 detectives and volunteers are actively working toward finding the missing child.
