Miss America 2014: Miss Rhode Island, Ivy DePew, Collapses On Stage And Is Taken To A Hospital
Miss America 2014 is just getting underway, but apparently the heated competition is getting to Miss Rhode Island Ivy DePew… literally. She collapsed on the stage and had to be taken to a nearby hospital.
In a related report by The Inquisitr, the women of Miss America 2014 will be wearing 3D printed shoes, which is quite a technological first for the beauty pageant.
The scare at Miss America 2014 started when DePew fainted onstage during night one of the preliminaries inside Boardwalk Hall. DePew had taken part in the evening gown and swimsuit competitions earlier in the evening, but dropped to the floor when Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno was speaking about her own professional accomplishments.
Silence came over Boardwalk Hall and Miss America 2014 contestants responded with solidarity by linking arms and blocking everyone’s view of the fallen DePew in order to prevent her privacy from being invaded as paramedics and police entered the stage. Dena Blizzard, the host of the preliminaries, eventually announced that DePew had been overcome by a heat stroke and Miss Rhode Island was taken to the hospital.
The latest reports from the hospital say DePew was “recovering in the case of medical professionals,” and the Miss America organization wished her a speedy recovery. Sharon Pearce, president of the Miss America Organization, said DePew would be fine. Sam Haskell, chief executive of the pageant, said the 23-year-old was with her parents. At this point in time, no other information is available about her current medical condition.
Miss Florida Victoria Cowen won the swimsuit competition Tuesday, while Miss Ohio Mackenzie Bart won the talent competition for a ventriloquism routine. Bart’s routine with her dummy, Roxie, had her singing “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” and brought the biggest cheers of the night. The next Miss America 2014 will be crowned this Sunday night.
