Neil Patrick Harris Marries David Burtka, Squashing Breakup Rumors
After a decade of dating, Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka are married. The same-sex couple exchanged vows in Italy over the weekend, which put a stop to tabloid rumors they were calling it quits.
E! News confirmed the couple’s Saturday nuptials, which were officiated by How I Met Your Mother producer, Pam Fryman. And on hand to perform at the wedding reception for Neil and David was none other than legendary singer Elton John.

The couple both donned custom matching Tom Ford tuxedos, and they looked nothing less than fabulous, marvelous, sensational or whatever you want to call it. Their twin son and daughter, who will be 4-years-old in October, were on hand to celebrate the magical moment.

Harris and Burtka, after a decade of dating, got the break they needed to make their romance official; New York lawmakers reached a major milestone by passing marriage equality in the state in 2011. They kept their engagement of five years under wraps, but decided to come out with their plans to wed, when it was clear gay and lesbian marriage was becoming more acceptable.
Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka sat down for an interview two years before their marriage and shared the secret to their longevity. David gushed about his soulmate.
“We are, in a way, very codependent. He’s my lifeline, in an amazing way. Without him, I can’t breathe. The biggest thing is that he makes me laugh, but he’s also smart. He can do everything. I’m not kidding; I think he’s half robot. He makes me a little more grounded, and I bring out the wild side in him. Don’t get me wrong — we fight. Our fights last five minutes, then we’re over it. And we’re both Gemini — we have a good twin and a bad twin, and the four of us get along really well!”
Neil and David’s weekend wedding in Italy effectively nixes recent tabloid rumors that their relationship had reached its shelf-life. Given the rates of divorce and degrees of separation among Hollywood couples, it’s not odd that headlines suggesting a split cropped up. However, a picture is worth a thousand words.
And to Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka, getting married — finally — is priceless.
