Drew Carey On ALS Ice Bucket Prank, Weight Loss, Male Model Searcg
Drew Carey, former host of classic improv television show Whose Line is it Anyway?, has been the focus of many headlines lately.
Possibly the most dramatic of these headlines has to do with the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. According to Wbpf.com, a teenage boy with autism was the victim of a cruel prank: classmates challenged him to do the Ice Bucket challenge and then doused him with their bodily waste and cigarette butts. The bullies have not yet been caught.
That’s where Carey comes in. Via Twitter, Drew offered to donate a $10,000 reward through the police to a reward fund for whoever turns in the perpetrators. Shortly after, Carey announced that if the perps are caught and the reward is not needed, he will donate the money to Autism Speaks.
In other news, Drew Carey’s legendary weight loss is still racking up headlines. While some studies show that weight loss may not necessarily link to happiness, Carey is exceedingly happy with his choices and hopes to lose further. According to a 2010 article by Parade, Drew lost his weight through a combination of healthy eating – Carey greatly diminished serving sizes and increased water intake – and exercise, saying:
“The hardest diet I was ever on was the one when I was fat… You can only wear fat clothes, you don’t feel good, your sex life gets damaged, you don’t have energy for anything. It’s horrible.”
While his incredible weight loss began in 2010, Carey told Entertainment Tonight in March that he’s not done yet. During Drew’s recent stint on Dancing with the Stars, the formerly XXXL-sized Carey said his hope was to lose another ten.
Perhaps Carey’s figure is why the producers of The Price is Right are seeking out a male model for the show.
According to LA Times, the model would win a week of Vanna White-style activity along with four female models who currently appear on the Carey-hosted show. The article says:
“Semifinalists will be invited to ‘come on down’ to Los Angeles to sit for interviews with a panel of expert judges, film a competition Web series, and, of course, demonstrate their ability to point enthusiastically at shiny new cars and household appliances.”
While Drew Carey’s weight loss may have inspired another cast member for America’s favorite game show, his generous heart may be inspiring others to donate to help find the perpetrators in the horrible bullying of a young boy with autism.
