Who Is Bethany Mota, Derek Hough’s ‘Dancing With The Stars’ Season 19 Partner?
Bethany Mota and Derek Hough are partners on season 19 of Dancing With the Stars, and they are already garnering quite a bit of buzz. For much of the DWTS traditional demographic, Mota is an unknown. However, many think she is a smart and intriguing addition, and it may well be that Bethany and Derek are a going to be a top couple to watch this fall.
As The Hollywood Reporter notes, casting Bethany Mota on Dancing With the Stars 19 represents a bit of a break from the norm with this show. Many describe 18-year-old Mota as a “YouTube sensation,” but her fans would say there’s much more to her than just a YouTube channel.
Mota has two YouTube channels, BethanysLife and Macbarbie07, and she’s built up a fan base of more than nine million subscribers across the two pages. She also has 1.9 Twitter followers and 3.6 million followers on Instagram. Mota says that she makes videos about fashion, makeup, hair, DIY projects and whatever she loves, and, as a result, she’s created something of an empire for herself.

Derek Hough’s new partner has already done a wee bit of television work, having appeared on Project Runway earlier this year. She also won the 2014 Teen Choice Award for Choice Female Web Star. Bethany is known for her positive and bubbly personality, which some would say is a refreshing change of pace in the world of young female celebrities.
Of course Dancing With the Stars is known for romance and showmance in addition to dance, so could there be sparks ahead for Bethany and Derek? That seems unlikely for a few reasons. First, while Derek has dated a former partner in Shannon Elizabeth, and some suspect Katherine Jenkins — Mota probably is a bit too young for him. Derek is 29-years-old.
It doesn’t appear that Bethany Mota is dating anybody, as she joked about her single life in a recent YouTube video. In addition, there have been some sightings lately of Derek and a mystery brunette, so it seems he may have a new romance blossoming off-screen. While there may not be a romance ahead for Bethany and Derek, it’s already clear that they are having fun working together and that they will be coming up with some great performances this fall.
Season 19 of Dancing With the Stars begins on Monday, September 15. Could Bethany and Derek be contenders for the mirror-ball trophy this season? Many DWTS fans think that may well be the case, though others are buzzing quite a bit about Janel Parrish and Val Chmerkovskiy too. Though Bethany Mota is a new face for many traditional viewers, she may well bring a new audience to the show, and her addition to the cast could be an invigorating opportunity.
