A strange footprint discovered in the Mississippi woods is leading some Vicksburg residents to question whether Bigfoot may call the area home, while one local paranormal researcher contends that he observed the beast last year.
Peyton Lassiter discovered the footprint on August 12, according to the Daily Mail , nine months after David Childers claims he saw a figure resembling Bigfoot dashing through the woods nearby. The footprint is unlike any left by man or bear, and measures nine inches by six inches. Lassiter discovered the footprint while working near an abandoned playground, and was able to make a cast of the strange track, even recovering white-gray hair.

Lassiter was intrigued by the footprint, noting that it bore a resemblance to other purported Bigfoot tracks. Like some of the most scientifically convincing examples, Lassiter’s footprint presented evidence of dermal ridges, according to the Clarion-Ledger .
“There are only two species that have that. Number one, humans and primates. Bears don’t have fingerprint-like impressions on the skin of the foot, so that kind of changes the game a little bit… I have no knowledge of what made it, and I didn’t see what made it, but it’s very intriguing.”
After seeing a truck with the markings of Childers’ Delta Paranormal Project, Lassiter reached out to him, only to learn that Childers may have observed the Bigfoot responsible for the inhuman footprint. While he wouldn’t say for certain whether or not what he observed was a Bigfoot, Childers contends that he saw something unusual.
“A creature, I don’t know what it was, about 6 feet tall. And it just bolted off through the woods… It was definitely a shaggy coat to it, like a grayish-brown color. When it made the noise that spooked me, I looked over, and it looked like it stood up and just bolted off.”

While The Inquisitr has previously reported on an inconclusive DNA study of Bigfoot hair, Lassiter asserts that the color of the sample he discovered doesn’t match the local population of black bears that could be responsible for the strange footprint, adding “I haven’t seen any polar bears in Vicksburg.”
Lassiter says he has also been able to uncover historically documented sightings of a Bigfoot-like creature in the region, dating as far back as 1721. Childers’ group is planning to further investigate the area where the footprint was found, in hopes of shedding more light on the mystery of Bigfoot.
