It’s official! The sequel to Magic Mike has finally started production. The follow up film to the 2012 surprise box office hit, starring Channing Tatum and a bevy of muscular men, is back for more. The beefcake dramedy loosely based on Tatum’s life as a male stripper is finally getting its sequel in the form of Magic Mike XXL.
A photo was shared of the film’s slate, dated August 31, which means production started a few days ago, and we’re just hearing about it via this social network announcement.
As expected, fans of the first film are already anticipating the sequel. Their excitement jumped up tenfold when the Magic Mike sequel’s production picture was shared on the official Facebook page.

For fans that were following the production closely there was a hint that the Magic Mike sequel was gearing up. On August 31, a casting call was held and reported on by Savannah Morning News.
“From Savannah residents to those who drove hundreds of miles to make the casting call, they’re all hoping to land a spot alongside Channing Tatum, who is reprising his role for the film.”
At the time casting, director Chad Darnell let it slip that Joe Manganiello was also joining the sequel which we already kind of expected.
“We’re looking for people that want to have fun that’s the big thing about this movie and this crew… The actors Channing, Matt (McConaughey) and Joe (Manganiello), they all feed off the crowd so I need people that are going to have high energy, have a good time and be able to do it for days at a time.”
As for Manganiello, who played Big Dick Richie, he’s currently vacationing with his girlfriend, Sofia Vergara.
Although we knew that a sequel was coming, since Tatum wasn’t coy in sharing the news with those that asked, we didn’t know what the plot would entail. It hasn’t been confirmed, but Tatum told GQ that he was interested in having the plot revolve around a stripper expo.
“I want to do the story of when I’m in a dark U-Haul with a bunch of these guys and we’re doing drugs driving up to the stripper convention. It gets zany and crazy, and it’s a wild ride. It’s an incubator for insanity. It doesn’t matter almost what you do onstage.”
Are you ready to see some of the Magic Mike guys get crazy?
