Diana Ross: Singer Reigns Supreme Over Son’s Nuptials To Ashlee Simpson

While the bride typically is the star of her own wedding, it seems Ashlee Simpson’s wedding to Evan Ross proved an exception.

According to Page Six, Diana Ross planned her youngest son’s weekend wedding. At the event on Ross’ estate, a source overheard Evan saying that Diana oversaw “every part of our wedding”.

Page Six cites another ‘spy’ who heard Ashlee saying “she and Evan were ‘meant to be’ and, ‘Diana is a wonderful mother.'”

While many musicians attended Sunday’s wedding, it was Diana Ross who took to the marquee at the reception. According to People magazine, Diana performed her song ‘Endless Love,’ much to the delight of the crowd. A source told People:

“When Diana got up to sing at the reception, she surprised everyone, even her kids! She was the only one on the dance floor and everyone rushed to see her.”

In addition to Diana Ross’ contributions, the wedding was a family affair. Ashlee’s older sister, Jessica, was matron-of-honor. Ashlee’s niece Maxwell, 2, served as flower girl and nephew Ace was ring-bearer.

Ashlee’s 5-year-old son, Bronx Mowgli, reportedly walked her down the aisle. Bronx is Ashlee’s son with former husband, Pete Wentz.

According to the New York Daily News, Simpson family friend CaCee Cobb was another bridesmaid. Evan’s half-sister, actress Tracee Ellis Ross, was master of ceremonies for the evening.

While Diana Ross oversaw the wedding planning, it seems Ashlee and Evan were able to add some bohemian touches. As US Weekly described it, the wedding “[used] dream catchers, eclectic touches, and a mix-and-match palette” to create the desired look.

While the theme was bohemian that does not mean there was not bling. US Weekly reported that Ashlee was wearing $750,000-worth of Neil Lane diamonds and rubies and a tiara.

The decor and jewels were lavish — and it seems — so was the food. People said guests feasted on:

“Salad made up of burrata and mozzarella cheeses, prosciutto, grilled vegetables, garlic croutons and baby arugula, dressed with olive oil. Later, the buffet-style dinner included sliced beef fillets, baked butternut squash polenta with smoked gouda cheese, chanterelle mushrooms, roasted cauliflower salad, Southern-style fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, deviled eggs with bacon, hush puppies and pasta”.

Though the party raged until 1 a.m. Monday, celebrations were not over. On Monday, Diana Ross threw another event for Ashlee and Evan; a ‘goodbye barbecue’ to cap off the weekend.

As reported in the Inquisitr, Ashlee and Evan started dating in 2013 and were engaged in January 2014.
