Chris Hemsworth has reportedly joined the cast of New Line Cinema’s long-delayed reboot of the classic Chevy Chase comedy National Lampoon’s Vacation .
Producers originally started kicking around the next installment of the franchise back in 2012, but the flick apparently hit a huge snag when no one could agree if the comedy should carry a PG-13 or an R-rating. Instead of figuring things out like adults and moving forward as planned, the movie ended up on the back burner . However, it appears that the studio is once again trying to get it off the ground.
Entertainment Weekly reports Chris Hemsworth will join It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia alum Charlie Day in the aforementioned reboot. The publication claims Hemsworth will tackle of the role of Audrey’s husband in the flick, while Day has a smaller role as a river rafting guide. Unfortunately, we’re not sure who will tackle the role of Audrey in Vacation as of this writing. Chances are this will change shortly.
Audrey and Rusty, of course, were Clark Griswold’s children in the original series. The reboot, which counts Horrible Bosses scribes John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein as writers, follows the adventures of Rusty as he attempts to take his own family on vacation. Ed Helms will reportedly tackle the lead role in the film.
Vacation serves as one of the rare comedic turns for Chris Hemsworth. Outside of director Drew Goddard and co-writer Joss Whedon’s ridiculously underrated Cabin in the Woods , Hemsworth generally sticks to actions flicks and dramas. If the actor is looking to change things up, then the Vacation reboot seems like a good place to start.
Hemsworth certainly has plenty of projects to keep him busy into the foreseeable future. In addition to his turn as Thor in The Avengers: Age of Ultron and the inevitable Thor 3 , Hemsworth is also attached to Michael Mann’s Blackhat , Ron Howard’s Heart of the Sea , Frank Darabont’s The Huntsman . In other words, his schedule is totally packed.
According to Collider , Chris Hemsworth is also rumored to tackle the lead role in Shane Black’s upcoming adaptation of Doc Savage . The filmmaker seems to think that the actor is a perfect fit for the character. We happen to agree.
“He’s the perfect physical specimen and when people look at him, they’re overawed by the sort of symmetry and perfection that he exudes.”
Are you a fan of Chris Hemsworth ? What do you think about the Avengers alum dipping his toes in comedic waters for the upcoming National Lampoon’s Vacation reboot?
