Hollywood’s new favorite star, Lupita Nyong’o, recently spoke with Harper’s Bazaar about her personal beauty tips to keep up her appearance and look as stunning as possible.
According to Daily Life , Nyong’o claims her hair can be molded and manipulated “ like clay .” She believes that women should not chemically treat their hair, no matter what its natural texture is. In fact, she says that it should be kept as natural as possible.
“I think African hair is like clay,” Nyong’o said to Harper’s Bazaar. “You can mold it into whatever you want, but it’s also very easy for it to change shape during the day.”
Nyongo’s entire approach to beauty seems to be pretty low-key and laid back, with not a lot of product or fuss required for upkeep. She did list a few hair products that keep her hair looking as naturally vibrant as possible, such as Miss Jessie’s Baby ButterCreme to keep her hair loose.
Nyong’o recommended a few Lancôme products, probably because Lupita is the spokeswoman for the brand. However, most of her suggested products are relatively cheap and include natural ingredients and very few chemicals. Avocado oil was one of Nyong’o’s biggest beauty tips, an inexpensive food product that can be used on both your hair and your face. The oil can be found in grocery stores near the vegetable and olive oils.
“Avocado oil is a big thing for me,” said Lupita Nyong’o. “I discovered it last year, and at first I was using it just on my body, but then I realized it works on my face, and my hair too, for that matter! It’s a one-stop shop. Especially in the wintertime, when my skin is drier, it really seeps in and leaves it nice and lush.”
Moving from maintenance to makeup, Nyong’o recommended a few Lancôme products that help her skin look its very best:
“When I’m not on the red carpet, I want my makeup to be quick and easy. Lancôme Hypnôse Mascara ($27.50) is nice because it has a curvy brush, so you can get it on in one or two swoops.”
Lupita does seem to have some strong opinions about beauty, but she believes one thing is more important than physical appearances. When she became the face of Lancome beauty products, she shared her opinion on compassion and how it can work to improve your own life and the lives of others.
“What actually sustains us — what is fundamentally beautiful — is compassion, for yourself and for those around you. That kind of beauty inflames the heart and enchants the soul.”
So there you have it. Lupita Nyong’o’s ultimate beauty tip is to be kind to people.
