Niall Horan Addresses One Direction Breakup Rumors… Again
Niall Horan has once again addressed a batch of rumors that suggest One Direction will probably hit the skids at some point in the near future.
Instead of tackling a rumor that started on a celebrity gossip site desperate to generate some serious PVs, Horan had to deal with something manager Simon Cowell said earlier this month. The former American Idol judge essentially said that boy bands don’t last forever, which means Niall and the gang could disappear into the musical ether very soon. Not surprisingly, fans kind of freaked out about it.
According to the Irish Mirror, Horan attempted to squash these rumors and settle the nerves of One Direction’s fans. In short: Niall wants everyone to know that the group has no plans of breaking up anytime soon. So relax, settle down, and take a deep breath.
Here’s what Niall said to calm everyone down.
“He was clearly misquoted or something. We’re going to go as long as we can go, as long as people want us we will be here. None of that rumors business. I don’t want to think about that at the minute. I’m still here, still with the band. I don’t need to think about it at all — I’m having a great time here, touring and having the craic with the lads — we are all still having a great time. We’ve got another album at the end of the year and doing our business as we do on a kind of yearly basis. I’m not thinking of what I have to do after just yet.”
Now that Niall Horan has settled everyone down, let’s take a moment to look at what Simon Cowell said. While he did say that One Direction will most likely break up at some point down the road, he didn’t necessarily mean it’s going to happen anytime soon. As much as we hate to say it, boy bands do have a shelf life. Start preparing now.
“Bands don’t stay together forever. I think they will make at least two more albums and they are in the middle of making one now.”
Once he realized his blunder, Cowell tried to clear things up.
“Just to clear up the rumours it is my guess and my hope One D will stay together for a very long time. The boys are having the best time. And as I said recently their new album is really really good.”
If you think Cowell is talking about of his behind, then you should probably take a moment to look at the facts. Take That, the Backstreet Boys, ‘N Sync, New Kids on the Block, and countless other like-minded groups all came to a close. Here’s the good news: Chances are Horan and his fellow singers will get back together when they hit their 40s and are looking to cash in on nostalgia. Fingers crossed!
