Did Beyonce and Jay Z announce their split at the 2014 MTV VMA’s? Well, not exactly.
Beyonce was honored at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday night, and with that honor came the performance of a lifetime. The “Drunk in Love” singer walked the red carpet in a black see-through ensemble adorned with sequins according to Us Weekly . But where was her husband, Jay Z?
Beyonce was presented with the Video Vanguard Award to close out the night. According to MTV News , the recipient of the award is an “exemplary musician who has made an incredible and long-lasting impact on pop culture.” Choosing Beyonce was pretty easy, given the fact that she is basically the definition of what the award is all about.
“Not many singers have the power or ability to command such a massive legion of fans, drop a number one album out of literally nowhere and take the world by storm tour after tour. Queen Bey seems to do it with ease and at the same damn time.”
For whatever reason, Beyonce didn’t sit in the audience and enjoy the show — perhaps she was backstage getting ready for her big moment. When the time finally arrived, Bey opened her performance with the song “Mine,” which could have been in response to all of the divorce rumors surrounding her and Jay Z. The lyrics of the song are extremely telling, and Bey almost looked emotional as she sang. “Been having conversations about breakups and separations/I’m not feeling like myself since the baby/Are we gonna even make it?”
Beyonce then sang “Haunted,” which is another ballad that some would say is also very telling. “It’s where we go/It’s where we’ll be/I know if I’m on to you, I’m on to you/On to you, you must be on to me.”
A couple of songs later, Bey broke into “Drunk in Love,” and as thousands of people watched and waited for Jay Z to come on stage and perform with her, no such thing happened (collaborations during these types of huge performances are almost expected).
For a split second, however, the camera panned to the audience and showed Jay Z sitting with a blank look on his face, and the couple’s baby girl, Blue Ivy, on his lap. He certainly didn’t look happy… at first. However, during Bey’s performance of “Flawless,” the camera caught Jay moving in his seat and he definitely had a big smile on his face.
Just then, Beyonce sang “Blue,” a song about her daughter. In the background, footage from Beyonce’s private life with her little girl — and her husband — aired.
When it was all over, Jay Z came up on the stage, holding Blue Ivy, and he embraced his wife and planted a kiss on the head. The two then kissed on the lips for all to see.
Jay Z presented his wife with the Video Vanguard Award… and as she cried and said her thank yous, she made sure to thank her loves, yes, both of them. “I love ya’ll so much,” Bey said, looking at Jay and Blue. “Blue, Blue I love you. My beloved, I love you,” Bey said, thus squashing the divorce rumors.
As previously reported by The Inquisitr , Beyonce’s mother, Tina Knowles, recently dismissed divorce rumors … so maybe now people will stop believing everything that they read.
