‘GTA V’ Zombies Outed By Magazine Cover?
Possibly the closest to an official clue that zombies are coming to Grand Theft Auto V was made Saturday when the Official Playstation Magazine – UK revealed its October cover. Of course, it was done in such a way that it still leaves a question around whether zombies are definitely coming to GTA V for the Playstation 4, Xbox One, Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.
Official Playstation Magazine – UK is running with a “zombie outbreak” themed cover for its next issue hitting shops on September 2. Dead Island 2 is featured prominently, along with Resident Evil, Dying Light, H1Z1, and The Walking Dead. Then it decided to stir the pot by mentioning Grand Theft Auto V with a question mark and exclamation point.

Rumors that a zombie mode could be coming to GTA V first hit at the end of July when code referencing “main_ZMB” was discovered in a recent update applied to the game, as reported by The Inquisitr. This was followed by a second code leak with more explicit references to “SPZOMBIES” as a menu selection item. “SP” is of course short-hand for single-player, so there’s no telling if a multiplayer zombies experience will make its way into the game as well.
As mentioned previously, Rockstar Games had a successful implementation of zombies with Red Dead Redemption on the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. The Undead Nightmare DLC for the open-world Western shooter went on to become of the best-selling pieces of add-on content for the developer and publisher Take-Two Interactive. It would make sense to try and replicate that success for the more than 33 million copies that were sold.
Additionally, the last two GTA V releases have included themes for 4th of July with the “Independence Day Pack” and National Aviation Day with the “San Andreas Flight School Update.” A DLC featuring zombies would go right along with Halloween.
We’re sure to find out more details once the next issue of Official Playstation Magazine – UK hits newsstands. Hopefully, it isn’t just speculation about the same zombie rumors that have been running for the past month. Rockstar Games has gone into quiet mode once again as it works to get the Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC versions of GTA V out this fall.
