Sylvester Stallone Joins Hollywood Hotshots In Denouncing Hamas
Hollywood might be more pro-Israel than you think. Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Seth Rogen, Sarah Silverman, and Minnie Driver are just a few of the many Hollywood moguls who have signed a letter calling for peace in the Middle East and an end to Hamas’ “ideology of hatred and genocide.” Stallone rarely makes political statements, but his pro-Israel stance is now well established.
The concise letter was put together by the Creative Community For Peace, an organization of artists, actors and musicians who share the beliefs about Israel and the Middle East. The organization bridges the gap between otherwise active liberal voices like Sarah Silverman and conservatives like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone.
While the main purpose of the letter is to call for peace, it does not hold back its criticism of Hamas.
“While we stand firm in our commitment to peace and justice, we must also stand firm against ideologies of hatred and genocide which are reflected in Hamas’ charter, Article 7 of which reads, “There is a Jew hiding behind me, come on and kill him!” The son of a Hamas founder has also commented about the true nature of Hamas.”
The article mentioned describes Hamas and its link in “the struggle against the Zionist invaders” and is one of many overtly racists passages.
The letter then goes on to talk about Hamas’ actions.
“Hamas cannot be allowed to rain rockets on Israeli cities, nor can it be allowed to hold its own people hostage. Hospitals are for healing, not for hiding weapons. Schools are for learning, not for launching missiles. Children are our hope, not our human shields.”
The letter is reminiscent of another statement put together in 2006 to call for peace in the conflict with Lebanon. That statement was also signed by Sylvester Stallone and host of other Hollywood stars.
The list of names on the roster challenges the idea that being pro-Israel is exclusively an American conservative stance. Stallone, however, has made it clear on a number of other issues, he is on the Republican side.
Sylvester Stallone endorsed Ronald Reagan, who then passed on his own endorsement of Rocky 2 as an inspiration to American soldiers. On foreign policy, Stallone described the world without the U.S. as “something right out of the dark ages.”
Although Stallone has sided with Democrats occasionally, supporting Bill Clinton during his sex scandal.
