Muppets Star Kermit The Frog Accepts WWE Chairman Vince McMahon’s ALS Bucket Challenge
In the world of charity, it is tough for all to be involved. However, the idea of dumping ice cold water on yourself and making others do it all to raise awareness in this hot summer seems like a great idea. It has actually worked too. When it came to ALS, people felt that it would be good to raise awareness for the disorder in this unique way, due to the fact that it gets overlooked more than it should. ALS is a horrific disorder that has affected many since it was first spoken of decades ago when Yankee great Lou Gehrig was diagnosed with it.
It was so highly publicized that Gehrig had the disorder that the disease was named “Lou Gehrig’s disease”, and has been popularized by that name for decades. The weird part about Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis is that people have no idea they will be getting it. It shows up in the body, and while some may have a higher risk of the disease, it is tough to really know beforehand.
According to the ALS Association, ALS is:
“A progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Motor neurons reach from the brain to the spinal cord and from the spinal cord to the muscles throughout the body.”
The problem with ALS is that we have found no cure, but there is hope. The problem comes down to the fact that funding for this disease is not as common as funding for cancer or other major diseases. While it is terrific that we are also trying to find ways to kill cancer, ALS is just as deadly. The saddest part about ALS is that it cannot be stopped. Once you have it, currently there is no sure fire way to get rid of it. There is only ways to make one more comfortable during the process of it taking you over.
The greatest thing about this year is that ALS has seemed to raise more money than any other single year. Already, ALS has grossed over $15 million more than last year. Just recently, $8 million was raised in a single day!
Now, it seems like all are getting in on the act to bring awareness to ALS, ranging from sports stars like LeBron James to actors like Ben Affleck, even former President George W. Bush got in on the fun.
For those that could not donate, the bucket of ice was thrown on them to still raise awareness for such a great cause. However, many have both donated and dumped the bucket of ice cold water on themselves, this writer included. Donations help to find a cure for ALS through research and testing, so every penny counts, literally. Awareness has been the popular choice, but that has brought others out of the woodwork to donate, especially those with the moola to do so.
However, there is nothing like seeing beloved child hero take a bucket of ice cold water. Kermit the Frog of the Muppets was recently challenged to take the ice cold bath by WWE Chairman Vince McMahon. These two have a rivalry that spans the generations people, it’s kind of interesting. When Vince took did the deed to raise ALS awareness, he nominated 2 others but many of us wanted to see Kermit take the ice bath.
Recently the Muppet accepted the challenge and it was hilarious to see. Watch below and let me know who you want to see take the ice bath who hasn’t already done so.
