Dwayne Johnson has revealed two possibilities for his upcoming role in a DC Comics movie. The “Scorpion King” tweeted a picture of three characters last month confirming he would be in the upcoming film based on one of them.
The characters shown were Superman, Shazam, and Black Adam. Unless Henry Cavill is secretly choosing to step down from the role after Batman V Superman: The Dawn of Justice , it’s doubtful that The Rock will play the Man of Steel.
A thousand comic book fanboys probably yelled their approval with that conclusion.
The Rock has been teasing his involvement with a DC Comics movie for months now, always keeping the answer a mystery. Now, it seems the mystery is down to one of two characters.
Shazam will be the center of a feature film about a man granted his powers by a 3,000-year-old wizard. In order to invoke those powers, this superhero has to yell the wizard’s name, and as a result, Captain Marvel is often called Shazam.
Dwayne Johnson hasn’t specified whether he will be playing the part of the superhero or his arch nemesis Black Adam.
Shazam’s nemesis was another character who the wizard tried to give his powers to, but Adam instead used those powers to try to take over the world. As a result, the wizard attempted to banish him to the farthest star in the universe. Obviously it didn’t work, since Black Adam is now the greatest threat to Captain Marvel and the Marvel family.
Dwayne Johnson did tell us what he could about the role:
“It’s the interpretation of a character from DC Comics. It’s the story of Shazam, but I can’t say if I’m playing Shazam or Black Adam… In this case in particular, I believe we will do [the part] justice. I’m putting my heart and soul into this role.”
With both characters being so similar in appearance, it seems that whoever is in charge of the upcoming Shazam movie will need to cast someone who looks similar to The Rock in the opposing role.
If Johnson plays the villain , it won’t be the first time. His breakout role in Hollywood was portraying the Scorpion King in the Mummy spinoff after having his face digitized over the monster in The Mummy Returns . It may not have been his finest moment, but it helped launch his acting career.

Either role will bring The Rock into the DC Comics movie universe for the first time, and with his natural charisma, he will definitely be memorable. He promises he won’t let the comic book fans down.
