‘The Fault In Our Stars’ Director Josh Boone Will Be Directing New ‘Interview With A Vampire’ Film
After the incredible success of The Fault In Our Stars film, fans are wondering what director Josh Boone will set his sights on next. While some may cringe to learn that Boone will be directing a vampire film next, some The Fault In Our Stars fans might find it right up Boone’s alley.
The film will be a rebooted adaptation of Anne Rice’s The Vampire Chronicles, a series of novels surrounding the French nobleman turned vampire Lestat de Lioncourt. According to The Wrap, Universal Pictures has been talking to The Fault In Our Stars’ director Josh Boone about a new “Lestat” film. The production company recently acquired the rights to The Vampire Chronicles and is planning to hire Boone to both write and direct the movie. The project will be produced by Brian Grazer, Alex Kurtzman, and Roberto Orci.
There have been several film adaptations of The Vampire Chronicles novels in the past, including Interview with a Vampire and Queen of the Damned. Neither were widely revered by critics, but both did enjoy a small bit of cult success. Queen of the Damned got some unusual attention after the lead actress and famous singer Aaliyah died before its official release.
The new movies written and directed by The Fault In Our Stars’ front man Josh Boone will include adaptations of all the books from Interview with a Vampire and Queen of the Damned to The Vampire Lestat.
According to Hypable, no lead actor has been hired yet to play Lestat. The character was played by Tom Cruise in the original film adaptation of Interview with a Vampire.
It’s likely that the films will find some degree of success simply because Josh Boone wrote and directed them, the man best associated with The Fault In Our Stars film. Of course, most of The Fault In Our Stars success came from the popularity of the source novel by John Green. John and his brother Hank found quite a bit of internet fame on their YouTube video blog show vlogbrothers, and brought much of The Fault In Our Stars audience to the theaters on their own. But John Green adamantly supported The Fault In Our Stars film and vouched for its excellence, so we can expect Boone’s newest film to be just as good.
What do you think? Are you excited for the next project by The Fault In Our Stars‘ director? Or should he stick to John Green novels?
