Kenny Chesney’s Flora-Bama-Jama Concert Was A Hit
Kenny Chesney threw a beach party the likes of no other Saturday on the Florida-Alabama state line. His Flora-Bama-Jama show was reportedly Chesney’s only concert appearance of 2014, and best of all, it was free!
According to Billoard, the special Kenny Chesney concert was planned for August 16, and while it was a free concert, fans were told they needed to get a free ticket in order to attend the show. No ticket, no entry into the Flora-Bama-Jama.
That being said, thousands were able to enjoy Kenny Chesney’s special concert appearance whether it was on the beach, or on the shoreline from their boats. USA Today reported that the concert was named not only for Kenny Chesney’s new single, “Flora-Bama”, but also for the iconic 50-year-old establishment, the Flora-Bama Lounge and Package Store.
According to AL.com, Chesney took the stage a little after 5:00 p.m. local time, and the crowd went crazy. Fans had been eagerly waiting for this moment all day, many reportedly since 6:00 a.m. or earlier. Chesney even remarked on the number of boats in the water along the beach:
“I’ve been up since 5:30 this morning watching those boats out there,” Chesney said early in the set. “There were about two or three then, but there must be 200 out there now.”
Chesney reportedly performed for fans for two-and-a-half hours and his set included songs such as “The Boys of Fall,” “She Thinks My Tractor’s Sexy,” and of course “Flora-Bama.” While fans waved around signs that claimed how much they love the country music superstar, he told the crowds that he loved them too:
“I’m so proud to be here,” Chesney enthused from the stage. “Thanks everybody. I love you for this.”
Fans claimed that this concert may have been one of Chesney’s best yet. Julie Pearson of Pensacola told AL.com that the concert was “the most epic one” she has attended:
“I’ve seen Kenny twelve times now, including today, but this might be the most epic one,” Pearson said. “We’ve been getting glimpses of him on the balcony of his condo, I think. At least I’m hoping it’s him.”
