Ben Stiller Might Direct ‘Zoolander 2’ After All
Ben Stiller might take the director’s seat for the sequel of his critically received 2001 comedy Zoolander. According to movie insiders, the comedian is one of the possible directors to man the sequel, reportedly entitled Zoolander 2. Justin Theroux, who was originally tapped to write and direct the comedy flick, has stated that he won’t be actively involved with the project.
According to The Guardian, the film script has already been written and is just waiting for a director to take the lead backstage. Justin has already stated that he won’t be participating in any directorial efforts for the film, pointing at Ben as a possible replacement. He said:
“I don’t think I’m going to [direct] it anymore. It’ll probably get handed to Ben, which would be awesome.”
Ben Stiller hasn’t confirmed if he is interested in directing the movie, but Justin is really hoping to see the comedian set the motion going for the sequel. Fans had been wanting to get Stiller back for so long, but the stars behind the successful comedy have been evading sequel speculations for well over a decade. Recently, the Inquisitr reported about Ben Stiller’s early statements regarding the film, indicating that there aren’t any immediate efforts to commence production:
“[‘Zoolander 2’] has been discussed and in some way in the works for ten years, but there are no plans to start production any time soon,”
Theroux’s recent statements renewed fans’ hopes about the movie. He has already confirmed that a script is ready to be taken to the camera and that execs, including Ben, are already reviewing the pages. One of the reasons Justin is passing the torch to Ben Stiller is his earlier commitments to other projects, including Leftovers, where he plays the lead role. He is also presumably busy spending time with fiance Jennifer Aniston. The two recently took a vacay at Bora Bora, where they got to unwind and get away from incessant break-up rumors that have been plaguing the couple for the past few months.
Although he has abandoned the idea of involving himself with the film, the actor/director remains optimistic about the direction of Zoolander 2, with Stiller as a possible director.
“We’re trying to sharpen it and hone it and, actually, I don’t want to jinx anything, but it looks like it actually might be starting to get up and running.”
People are currently waiting for Ben Stiller’s response. If he says “yes” to the project, not only will we have Stiller’s comedic genius behind the cam. We’ll also get to see him do the “Blue Steel” again.
Ben Stiller will reprise his lead role in Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb, which is set to open on theaters this December.
