WWE SummerSlam: Could John Cena Be Taking Time Off After His Match With Brock Lesnar?
WWE is known for surprises and those shocks help to make us remember why we love this whole pro-wrestling thing to begin with as fans. The issue comes down to the fact that today, shocks are not really as common as they used to be with places like the Internet to check and find out information. Sorry about that by the way. WWE can still give us what we want even if they cannot surprise us to do it, and that seems to be what the WWE will sort of be getting at SummerSlam on August 17th.
Brock Lesnar is set take on John Cena for Cena’s WWE World Heavyweight Championship. This has led to speculation that Brock Lesnar will go into the match and win the WWE World Heavyweight Title. However, other speculation has come about lately as rumors of John Cena taking a bit of time off have come around yet again. WWE has sort of set up for the concept of Cena taking time off already, if you pay attention to how WWE has promoted the match.
The WWE has made Brock Lesnar out to be a big monster type that once fought John Cena at Extreme Rules in 2012, where he lost to the WWE’s golden boy. However, Lesnar still dominated the fight and busted Cena open within the first minute of the match, really.
Lesnar was said to not be 100% at the time, and this is actually factual. The Beast Incarnate had been battling Diverticulitis the year before and had to leave the UFC due to it. He is now better and at 100%. So WWE has basically made us wonder, if Brock can do as he did at Extreme Rules being a shell of what he could have been….what could this man do at 100 percent?
Lesnar beat The Undertaker’s undefeated streak at WrestleMania this pasty year at the 30th anniversary of the event. This sent shockwaves through the WWE Universe and we were all shocked that it finally happened. No one could realistically say they saw it coming other than the men involved in the match themselves. Hell, the referee didn’t even know!
This has led to many wondering when Lesnar would end up setting his sights on the WWE World Heavyweight Title. It just so happens that he now wants the title and it looks like no one can stop him from getting it. He conquered the streak, a mark no one has broken in WWE History. What could stop Lesnar from conquering John Cena and becoming the WWE World Heavyweight Champion?
If Cena were to lose at SummerSlam, he would have to be beaten to the point of being unable to move. Lesnar has threatened to basically end the career of John Cena, and if he does win the match….what could stop him from trying to put an end to Cena’s career?
Forget the fact that Lesnar would have the WWE World Heavyweight Title, he would not stop there.
Cena fought Lesnar in 2012 and was set to take time off originally right after that match to rest up from injuries he has sustained. WWE didn’t allow it, and eventually Cena was hurt more and had to have surgery to remove bone chips. He was hurt off and on again, and once again had to take time off from WWE in 2013.
WWE would want to sell their beast, and due to the fact that John Cena also has some Hollywood projects coming up, it seems likely Cena will be given some time off to both rest his body and film some projects of his.
WWE has contemplated the idea of having Lesnar lose at SummerSlam but win the WWE World Heavyweight Title at Night of Champions. However, if WWE wants to continue to sell Lesnar as a monster it would only make sense for him to win at SummerSlam. He would have to beat Cena up severely, which would force Cena to be off TV for a bit.
One idea floating around is that Cena would be out and come back to win the title from Lesnar only to be cashed in on by Seth Rollins. Lesnar would then get the WWE World Heavyweight Title back. This would allow WWE to not use a lot of Lesnar’s dates up, but WWE could always save the Rollins cash in for another time.
If John Cena does end up taking time off like rumored, it won’t be long. Cena would only be gone through September only to return by Hell in a Cell. However, WWE could always have Cena miss the RAW following SummerSlam but be back by the following week. Right now, it is up in the air. Cena will be busy with Hollywood projects however, and it only makes sense to write him off at SummerSlam. So don’t be surprised to see it.
