Mark Zuckerberg threw out a challenge to Bill Gates, and the challenge was accepted and completed. We’re talking about the Ice Bucket Challenge, where the rich and famous are dared to douse themselves with a huge bucket of ice water, which must be done within 24 hours of when the challenge is made known.
If they don’t follow through with the challenge, they are obligated to make a donation to a charity, focused on Lou Gehrig’s Disease in order to raise awareness for ALS, according to The Verge .
Once Zuckerberg tossed the baton to Gates, the multi-billionaire was not about to be outdone by Zuckerberg. After we see in the video below of Zuckerberg extending the challenge, we see Gates’ response and he immediately gets busy. Gates designed and built a machine that held a huge bucket with an attached rope for Gates to pull and soak himself in freezing ice water.
As the cameras are rolling, and Gates is about to fulfill his dare, he spews out a few other well-known names and tells them they now been officially given the “Ice Bucket Challenge” and they have 24 hours to make it happen.
According to Sky News , the next people we can expect to see getting soaked are Elon Musk from SpaceX and Tesla electric cars, Ryan Seacrest of American Idol, and Chris Sanderson, the curator of the TED conferences. Those should be interesting and fun to see.
As the 58-year-old Gates grabs the rope, and is just about to pull and empty the icy bucket over his head as we watch in glorious slow motion, he smiles and says to Musk, Sanderson and Seacrest, “You have 24 hours – good luck !”
