First Still of Jennifer Lawrence in ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1’ Shows Her As The Mockingjay
November 21 is just over three months away, and so while The Hunger Games has slowly made its way back onto everyone’s radar, it is only in the coming months that we’ll be hit with the full brunt of the marketing campaign–in fact, we’ve yet to get hit with an actual trailer. It’s only fitting that we finally get at least treated to the first official still of Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) (via Hypable).
If you’ve been following the release of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1, then this shot may give you a slight case of deja vu, as it looks as though it has been ripped straight out of one of the scenes from the recently-released trailer. In this photo, we see Jennifer Lawrence in what appears to be in a slum of some sort (based on the folks surrounding her), dressed in her battle-ready Mockingjay attire. Based on previously-released set photos, this looks to be the outfit she’ll be running around in during her Mockingjay propaganda shoots, as it does not appear to be outfitted with with full bulletproof protection like the one in the photo below does.
So how exactly does this fit into the movie itself? If you are unfamiliar with the plot of the flick, we’ll enlighten, though please keep in mind that below contains SPOILERS for the first two Hunger Games movies, and ever-so-slight spoilers on the premise of the third film.
Following the events of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Katniss finds herself in District 13, who once rebelled against The Capitol, only to be crushed. Little did The Capitol know, not only had District 13 had survived, but they’ve been plotting for years to rise up and destroy the oppressive government once and for all. After witnessing the impact Katniss Everdeen had made during the Hunger Games in the first film, District 13 made it a plan to get her out during the Hunger Games in the second film and use her as the figurehead for the rebellion–hence the final events in the second Hunger Games film.
The word “figurehead” is key here in the new official photo. It’s no coincidence that the outfit Katniss wears in the still is pristine and shiny black. If you recall the first official teaser, where the young boy asks Katniss if she’s there to fight with them, the former Hunger Games winner responds with an intense “I am. I will.” But as the poster girl for District 13, will Katniss be able to merely sit by and inspire everyone from the sidelines?
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1 is slated for release on November 21, 2014. The final film in the series The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 2 is set for almost exactly a year later on November 20, 2015.
