WWE SummerSlam Rumor: Stephanie McMahon Wins Thanks To A Nikki Bella Turn?
WWE SummerSlam goes down Sunday night, and one of the biggest storylines is the one brewing between boss Stephanie McMahon and Brie Bella, wife of sidelined champ Daniel Bryan.
The obvious ending would be to have Brie Bella get revenge on her boss, especially after Stephanie has gotten the upper hand on the last two RAW episodes leading in to the event.
Typically, you can predict who’s going to win based on that momentum. Heel or Face, whoever gets the upper hand going in to the PPV will have a bad time at the actual show.
But a new rumor surfacing on Bleacher Report finds the company veering from this oft-used device and having a Nikki Bella turn, which would in essence give Stephanie McMahon the win over the fan favorite.
Bleacher Report actually calls that “predictable,” but I disagree given the vibe of recent WWE storylines.
The company has gone all-out with the Face wins to a disturbing degree. The product is almost “too safe” at this point, the Brock Lesnar win over Undertaker being the only notable exception.
Personally, I don’t think this will happen because it makes too much sense from a storytelling angle, but the possibility is a good one for all the future angles that it would set up.
Putting it in movie terms, you don’t want your good guy to conquer the bad guy right from the beginning. If that had happened, Rocky Balboa would have beaten Clubber Lang in their first matchup and we would have gone home from Rocky III after about 35 minutes feeling utterly ripped off.
No, the crowd definitely seems to be behind this story right now. You get that from the “This is awesome” chants whenever the two ladies are thrown together at live shows.
That’s the kind of heat that you want to keep going, and I don’t see how that happens with Brie Bella getting the nod over Stephanie McMahon.
Even if Brie did manage to pull out a victory, you’d definitely want to have Stephanie get the upper hand before going to the locker room, and the way to do that is by using a Nikki Bella turn. That would destroy Brie emotionally and leave her open to a physical attack, which in turn could keep this thing going.
