WWE Rumor: Kurt Angle Says He’s Coming Back, Vince McMahon Not So Sure
Kurt Angle could soon be returning to WWE if reports from F4WOnline are to be believed.
The Olympic gold medalist and former WWE Champion had a memorable feud with Brock Lesnar. In fact, at the time, he was the only guy on the roster who could believably stand in the same ring as the Beast Incarnate and give as good as he got.
In other words, you could actually buy Angle getting a win over Brock and vice versa. For pure in-ring talent, it was one of the WWE’s finest hours, and so it makes sense that the company would want a piece of their former superstar when his TNA Wrestling contract expires in September.
However, as WrestlingRumors reports, this desire of Kurt Angle to retire in the WWE could be a pipe dream.
More from the report:
“Dave Meltzer… claims that Angle is trying to get WWE executives to take him back on a contract that looks similar to the deal Shawn Michaels had near the end of his in-ring career. Michaels worked all the ‘big’ shows, such as PPVs, but rarely worked house shows and was on limited TV.”
“Meltzer goes on to report that WWE hasn’t shown much interest in acquiring [Kurt Angle]. As previously noted, Vince McMahon has gone on record saying he was weary of having Angle under contract… especially given his history of demons.”
“Angle has struggled with alcohol and drug addiction for years, so much so that it has led to multiple arrests and stints in rehab. McMahon’s anxieties about re-signing Angle exist due to his past struggles, where McMahon is terrified about having an Olympic gold medalist do something tragic to himself or someone else while under contract and representing the WWE banner.”
Nevertheless, the report states that Angle has publicly touted his sobriety and has been reportedly telling fans he’ll be back with WWE in September.
Should WWE choose to let Kurt back into the fold, we would love to see him in a feud with Rusev, though it looks like the company may have decided to let Jack Swagger be the man that ends his and Lana’s unbeaten streak.(Seriously, with the push they’ve given Swagger, I’d be surprised if he didn’t walk out of WWE SummerSlam with a win.)
Of course, losing Angle would be another negative for Dixie Carter, who doesn’t need any further bad TNA news at this point, considering that it sounds like the ship is going down following the loss of a Spike TV deal, the cancellation of live shows, and the departure of main office personnel, detailed here by WrestleView.
What do you guys think? Is the WWE Universe ready to have Kurt Angle back in the fold? Would you like to see him against Rusev or Brock Lesnar? Sound off in the comments section.
