‘Frozen’ Special Coming To ABC In September

A new special from ABC entitled, The Story of Frozen: Making an Animated Classic, is coming to Disney-owned ABC on September 2.

The Frozen special, in collaboration with Lincoln Square Productions and Walt Disney Animation Studios, will give Frozen fans a behind-the-scenes look at the inception, development, and creation of the multi-award winning mega-hit. The Story of Frozen: Making an Animated Classic will also include announcements concerning Frozen’s next chapter, as well as a preview of real-life versions of Frozen’s characters — including Anna, Elsa, and Kristoff — to appear on an upcoming episode of ABC’s Once Upon a Time.

In addition to that, Frozen fans will get an inside look at the Walt Disney Animation Studios, see interviews with Frozen stars Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel, as well as Frozen’s directors, songwriters, producers, and artists according to Deadline.

The Frozen special will take viewers to Norwegian Villages and landscapes the helped dictate what Arendelle, the village featured in the film, would look like. It will also feature looks at locations in such places as Norway, Quebec, and other landscapes that offered inspiration for Frozen.

When Frozen was released in 2013, it became a runaway hit. Disney’s 53rd animated film, Frozen was inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale The Snow Queen. Telling the story of a fearless princess that sets off on a journey with a rugged ice-man, his loyal reindeer, and an awkward snowman to find her exiled sister, whose strange icy powers have unwittingly captured the kingdom in eternal winter.

Released on November 27, 2013, Frozen was immediately met with vast acceptance by both critics and audiences alike. Some critics even claimed that the film was the best Disney animated film since the studio’s Renaissance Era. Frozen was also a blockbuster in the box office department. The film claimed over $1.2 billion in worldwide revenue, according to Box Office Mojo, and an incalculable amount for Disney in Frozen-themed merchandise.

The film ended up winning two Academy Awards — one for Best Animated Feature and one for Best Original Song. The track “Let it Go” was an instant hit and was stuck in parent’s heads for months to come after the film’s DVD release as a result of their children viewing the film over and over and over again.

The Story of Frozen: Making an Animated Classic will culminate with an exclusive sneak-peak at the comedy-adventure, Big Hero 6 — a film that is currently in production at Disney but has been kept curiously under wraps.

The Frozen special airs September 2nd on ABC.
