Robin Williams’ Family And His Assistant Rebecca Erwin Spencer Left Heartbroken After Actor’s Death
Robin Williams’s wife, Susan Schneider, was one of the first people to release a statement following his tragic death. Since Monday, one of the worst days ever, Williams’s kids Zak, Zelda, and Cody also released statements about their dad. Ex-wife Marsha Garces has also spoken out following the devastating news. Williams’s first wife, Valerie Velardi, is likely very upset about her ex-husband’s death, but she has not released a public statement of any kind.
According to The Washington Post, the majority of family statements were released on Tuesday evening.
Williams’ eldest son, Zak (mom is Velardi), called his dad his “best friend.”
“Yesterday, I lost my father and a best friend and the world got a little grayer. I will carry his heart with me every day. I would ask those that loved him to remember him by being as gentle, kind, and generous as he would be. Seek to bring joy to the world as he sought.”
Zelda Williams, 25, said the last time she saw her dad was on his birthday, July 21.
“My last day with him was his birthday and, I will be forever grateful that my brothers and I got to spend that time alone with him, sharing gifts and laughter. He was always warm, even in his darkest moments. While I’ll never, ever understand how he could be loved so deeply and not find it in his heart to stay, there’s minor comfort in knowing our grief and loss, in some small way, is shared with millions.”
Williams’ 23-year-old son, Cody, also shared some heartbreaking words about his dad.
“I will miss him and take him with me everywhere I go for the rest of my life, and will look forward, forever, to the moment when I get to see him again.”
Zelda and Cody Williams’s mom, Marsha Garces, called the loss “immeasurable.”
“My heart is split wide open and scattered over the planet with all of you… My arms are wrapped around our children as we attempt to grapple with celebrating the man we love, while dealing with this immeasurable loss.”
Robin Williams’s wife, Susan Schneider, is “utterly heartbroken.” As previously reported by The Inquisitr, Schneider was Williams’s third wife. The two married in 2011 at the Meadowood Resort in the Napa Valley town of St. Helena, Calif. and were thought to be very happy together. According to The New York Times, however, Robin and Susan slept in separate bedrooms — at least on the day that Williams killed himself.
“Mr. Williams’s wife, Susan Schneider, went to bed at 10:30 Sunday night and woke up on Monday believing her husband was still asleep in a separate bedroom.”
Williams was found by his longtime assistant, Rebecca Erwin Spencer. According to Radar Online, Spencer has been back to Williams’s home multiple times since she found his body on Monday. By now, almost everyone knows that Spencer knocked on Williams’s bedroom door, and when he didn’t respond, she entered (it’s unclear whether or not the door was locked). Inside the room she found her dear friend unresponsive with a belt around his neck.
It is unknown where Robin Williams’s wife, Susan Schneider, was at the time.
Spencer posted a photo on Facebook with the caption, “What a time we had!” on Tuesday. The photo was of Williams performing for the U.S. troops overseas.
Sources say that Williams was at an AA meeting, sober, on Saturday, just two days before he took his own life.
