Tucson police officers were attacked and deemed racists after pulling over an illegal immigrant driving without a license. The Arizona incident began after the Tucson police officers pulled over a driver who had made an illegal right turn. The traffic stop became anything but routine after a spontaneous protest occurred and the officers were swarmed. The open border advocates claimed the officers were using SB1070 for racial profiling purposes. Norlan Flores Prado, the driver, reportedly called the activists as he was being stopped by the police.
Two female protesters crawled under a vehicle while attempting to stop the Tucson police from turning the illegal immigrant over to Border Patro l agents. The Border Patrol agents and Tucson police officers were ultimately forced to pull the women from beneath the vehicle by their legs when they refused to comply with orders to stop interfering with the arrest.
The Tucson police stop of the illegal immigrant driver happened on Sunday. Shortly after the traffic stop, open border activists reportedly showed up to confront the police officers and Border Patrol agents. The driver admitted being an illegal alien in the early moments of the stop. It remains unclear how the open border activists learned of the traffic stop so quickly.
In 2010, open border advocates reportedly placed chains, broken glass, and tires across the highway in Arizona in a “stop deportation” protest. A “Stop All Militarization! The Border is Illegal!” banner was also hung across the highway during the protest. Tucson Police Sergeant Chris Widmer said the officer pulled the man over just before 3 pm on Sunday.
When the officers approached the man, he reportedly said he did not have a driver’s license and was in the country illegally. Border Patrol agents were immediately contacted and arrived in an unmarked vehicle. When the Border Patrol agents pulled onto the scene the open border protesters began swarming the area and additional officers were called in for crowd control.
“ Norlan Flores Prado was on the way to the hospital to see his newborn daughter when he was stopped for a traffic violation in Tuscon. We’re here because we demand that the police department in Tucson stop the racial profiling and stop the devastation of families,” Isabel Garcia, of the Coalición de Derechos Humanos, said.
The Border Patrol agents are taking over the investigation involving the driver and no arrests were made among the protesters.
