Regis Philbin announced today that he will be filming his final episode of “Live! With Regis and Kelly” in November. Regis’ final show is scheduled for November 18th, which is the Friday before Thanksgiving.
Philbin, who turned 80-years-old this year, announced in January that he would be retiring. Regis has been with “Live!” for close to three decades.
Philbin said:
“There is a time that everything must come to an end for certain people on camera, especially certain old people.”
“Live! With Regis and Kelly” will be honoring the famous comedian with a series of episodes, flashbacks, nostalgic trivia games, and special guests during the “Celebration Farewell Season.”
At 80-years-old, you’d expect Philbin to hang it up after the final episode of “Live” airs in November. But the comedian could find a new place on television after he’s moved on from “Live! With Regis and Kelly.”
Philbin told USA Today:
“There are several things that interest me. You know these reality shows? I would love to do a real reality show. I did a little pilot for somebody last week in L.A.”
So what would a reality show starring Regis involve? Well, according to the short pilot that was filmed, crews would follow Regis as he goes to various doctors. Sounds exciting. Luckily, Regis hasn’t committed to a new reality show yet.
Regis said:
“I’d like to take some time off. That’s why I haven’t made the decision yet.”
Kelly Ripa will continue “Live!” after Regis is gone, but a replacement for the funnyman hasn’t been announced yet. Philbin said that he’d like to see Tom Bergeron step on to the “Live!” set. Will you be watching “Live!” after Regis’ final show?
