Helen Mirren: Academy Award Winning, 69-Year-Old ‘GILF’ Can Twerk It! [VIDEO]
Acadamy award winning actress, Helen Mirren, is known for many things throughout her storied career. Professionally, she is known for her monarch roles in The Queen and The Madness of King George. Personally, she’s known for living with Liam Neeson (relationship was platonic from what is known) after working together in Excalibur. Here on The Inquisitr, we’ve reported her personal desire to live to the age of 150 and the fact she “cuts her own hair.”
Now, Helen Mirren is going to be known for doing something else, something that most people would expect younger women to do: twerking.
That’s right! On the morning show Live! With Kelly and Michael, Helen Mirren stopped by as a guest to discuss certain things about her life just days after turning the age of 69. ABC News reports that she had a twerking contest with Michael Strahan, in which he proudly self-proclaims to be a “twerking expert.” Wouldn’t that honor go to people like Miley Cyrus? Anyways, both Helen and Michael showed off their “booty-shaking” skills to Kelly Ripa’s delight (or maybe to her shock).
Apparently, this isn’t Helen Mirren’s first time twerking in front of a live audience. In another article by the Huffington Post, she explained her experiences being honored with The Hasty Pudding Club’s Woman of the Year Award at Harvard University. With a bit of comedic disdain, she also explains how the students “forced” her to twerk, which eventually she did.
On the subject of twerking, technically it has been around for a long time. A mainstay in hip hop and reggaeton culture, it originally came about in the 80s. However, it started to become a mainstay – or at least its original name – when the Ying Yang Twins peaked at number 17 with their hit song “Whistle While You Twurk.” Since then, many famous modern acts, such as Iggy Azalea and, of course, Miley Cyrus, have used it since.
Now that you’ve seen the famous Helen Mirren twerk it, we want to know what you think? Are you surprised that an actress of such stature would actually do such a thing? Is Mirren twerking unfitting for someone of her stature, or does it show that she’s easy-going and able to relate to a younger generation? Please let us know in the comments below.
