Andy Samberg’s The Lonely Island Is Getting A Movie With Judd Apatow
The Lonely Island, which includes former Saturday Night Live cast member Andy Samberg, is getting their own movie. The trio, who produced some of the most successful viral digital shorts like “D**k In A Box,” “I’m On A Boat”, and “Motherlover,” are heading to the big screen and are getting a little help from comedy producer Judd Apatow.
According to Deadline, the Emmy winning trio including Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer, and Jorma Taccone, will all star in the film for Judd Apatow Productions. Although we don’t know what the plot will be of the film, we’re positive that some of the film will happen in song like we’re used to seeing from the boys. If anything, it would be nice to see the guys take on a caper movie.
We’re unsure if they will write original songs for the movie, but if they don’t, the trio would have plenty of material to borrow from. While on Saturday Night Live, the boys came up with three studio albums and 20 singles. Additionally, they performed in The LEGO Movie, which resulted in a hit single “Everything is Awesome.”
The only thing we’re privy to is the co-directing that will take place on the film. Taccone and Schaffer will co-direct, which makes sense seeing as the two took control of their digital comedy shorts.
As expected fans are already pumped about the new Lonely Island feature film.

There’s a lot of questions that come from this Lonely Island movie announcement. We’re interested in hearing how the film will be framed considering the trio have only took on short music videos in the past. Additionally, we’re wondering if this will fall into a musical comedy or a more mainstream comedic venture.
We’re also hoping this movie will result in huge star cameos. In the past, The Lonely Island were able to pull off major celebrities to collaborate on projects with them, including Justin Timberlake, Michael Bolton, and Nicki Minaj, just to name a few.
So far there’s no news on what Universal’s release date will be, but we’re certainly excited about this one.
