Israel Causes Hamas And Palestinian Men To Beat Their Wives, Claims United Nations Representative
Israel’s use of violence in protecting itself from Hamas rockets is supposedly causing Palestinian men to beat their wives according to the United Nations Human Rights Council. But why does UNHRC head Navi Pillay seem to blame Israel for domestic abuse?
In a related report by The Inquisitr, in our exclusive interview with Dr. Manfred Gerstenfeld we discussed the rise of the Islamo-Nazi movement and how “Jew hate” has spread throughout the world.
The invasion of the Gaza strip by the IDF has been very controversial throughout the world, with some people decrying how civilians have been injured or killed in the conflict with Hamas terrorists. But others point out how Hamas has systematically attempted to make certain their actions draw this type of support. For example, a Hamas combat manual encourages their members to use Palestinian civilians as human shields. Reporters have also caught Hamas killing Palestinian children and executing adults who disagree with them. Even foreign journalists have been targeted by the terrorist group that is supposed to represent the Palestinian people.
But some politicians believe it is Israel that is fault. For example, Jimmy Carter wants Hamas to be recognized as a legitimate group despite the United States officially identifying Hamas as only terrorists. Even members of the United Nations seems to believe Israel in the wrong. For example, Navi Pillay said:
“Women in the Occupied Palestinian Territory face multiple layers of violence and discrimination. The analysis made by the Special Rapporteur on violence against women in 2005 remains valid. She found that the combination of decades of Israeli occupation, the use of force against Palestinians by Israel, the different forms of resistance used by Palestinians against such use of force and the patriarchy prevailing in Palestinian society expose women to a continuum of violence in all spheres of life.”
Pillay was referencing a 2005 study on violence against Palestinian women. The report would seem to blame the Israeli government for Palestinian men beating their wives:
“Women with husbands explained that the dire economic situation and the pressures of the occupation have made men more violent because they have lost their ability to provide and protect — two essential elements of manhood in a traditional patriarchal society. As men become stripped of their manhood, women become the shock absorbers of the crises as targets of domestic violence…. Security measures are directed at the entire Palestinian population; in this regard, women are subjected to violence emanating from these measures in similar ways to other members of the society…. In order to demonstrate this, I focus on four measures employed by the Israeli authorities.”
The debate over this issue also centers around the Muslim religion. For example, the Quran tells Muslim women that their wives should be “scourged” if they are disobedient or are in “rebellion.” The Islamic scholar Abdul-latif Mushtahiri says:
“If admonishing and sexual desertion fail to bring forth results and the woman is of a cold and stubborn type, the Qur’an bestows on man the right to straighten her out by way of punishment and beating provided he does not break her bones nor shed blood. Many a wife belongs to this querulous type and requires this sort of punishment to bring her to her senses!”
But some Islamic websites like Women In Islam claim this is not true and will say, “Islam forbids beating women and warns strictly against it.” At the same time, they also admit, “Islam permits the beating of wives in a restricted and limited sense only as a final solution and acceptable valid reason when all else fails.”
What do you think about the assertion by the United Nations Human Rights Council that decisions by Israel indirectly cause domestic abuse by Palestinians?
