Wesley Snipes: ‘Expendables 3’ Will Poke Fun At Three-Year Prison Sentence

Wesley Snipes may have spent three years in prison for federal income tax evasion, but at least he’s got a good sense of humor about it.

The action star is set to return to the big screen along with Sylvester Stallone and the cast of The Expendables 3, and said the movie will take a crack at his time behind bars. One of the opening scenes of the movie has a joke about tax evasion, something Wesley Snipes said he found pretty funny.

“Whether I do something really funny or really stupid, it is okay with me,” Snipes told The Associated Press. “I think that is what life is about. You can’t take life itself too seriously.”

Wesley had more to joke about before the premiere of the film on Monday. He told interviewers that he had plans to be in the first Expendables movie but found himself “just a little occupied at the time.”

“They reserved a spot for me and when the opportunity came along he reached out again and said come join us, we would like you to be a part of this,” he said.

Wesley’s friend and co-star Sylvester Stallone also had some jokes about the prison stint. At a press conference in London to promote The Expendables 3, Stallone had a career suggestion for Wesley, quipping: “You don’t mind that I’m readying you for a part in Escape From Alcatraz 2 do you?”

Wesley Snipes returned the joke by saying he had wanted to work with Sylvester ever since the starred together in the 1993 movie Demolition Man.”I’ve been waiting to work with you ever since. You were busy… I was busy,” Snipes said.

The 52-year-old actor seems to have an interesting perspective about his prison time, saying he tried to make the best of it.

“At the end of the day, nobody really cares. You’re going to be forgotten anyway. The issues and problems that you think are like mountains that you have to deal with now, after time goes by, nobody cares,” he continues. “Might as well have a good time with it.”

Now out of prison, Wesley Snipes said he’s ready to kick his career back into action, and a return to the vampire saga Blade is one of his top projects.
