Mortal Kombat X To Have Playable Kano, New Characters?

A few months ago, NetherRealm Studios announced that a tenth installment of the Mortal Kombat franchise will be coming soon. Now, a more complete roster of characters has been given, mostly unofficially, and may include game veteran Kano, a long-time nemesis in Mortal Kombat through the years.

Mortal Kombat X will have smoother graphics, faster game play, and more variation, promises the trailer released to promote the game’s development. At the Electronic Entertainment Expo this year, more details of the Mortal Kombat release were given, including some of the storyline that will be used in-game.

The last installment was in 2011 and this latest Mortal Kombat will pick up the story twenty-five years after that previous one. It was believed at the time that the ninth rendition might have been the last, at least for that storyline, since most of the main characters in Mortal Kombat were killed off with that rendition. Instead, several new characters will join the surviving mainstays like Scorpion and Sub-Zero and a new rendition of Raiden. Most of those were detailed by Inquisitr earlier this month, including the possibility of an as-yet unidentified special guest fighter.

If a leak in Twitter is to be believed, one of the new characters is actually old: Kano. The tweet shows what appear to be storyboard graphics of Kano doing a flying knee attack with notes about “wrestling” moves.

Other characters announced for Mortal Kombat X include D’Vorah, Kotal Kahn, Ferra and Torr. Plus one named Cassie Cage who is, as would be obvious to Mortal Kombat fans, the daughter of Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade. NetherRealm has promised more details about Mortal Kombat X and its characters at the upcoming Gamescom in Cologne, Germany August 13-17, according to the International Business Times.

Play styles, already announced for Mortal Kombat, will include three renditions for each character, each of which has strengths and weaknesses to go along with the strengths and weaknesses of the character itself. These allow players to customize their own game play and style. This also allows simplified controls and fewer animation requirements, speeding up the game.

Further, so far three Mortal Kombat X stages have been revealed by NetherRealm Studios: the Outworld Marketplace, Snow Forest, and the Cove. All three stages will be dynamic environments where players can interact with various background objects to use as an advantage against their opponents.

More details will be coming and as they release, we’ll keep you updated on the latest in Mortal Kombat X.
