‘Fifty Shades Of Grey’ Trailer Makes History As Most Watched Trailer In Debut Week [VIDEO]
The reaction to the release of the book Fifty Shades of Grey has been surprising. For some, it is the most erotic piece of literature they ever read. For others, it is a horribly written piece riding the coattails of Twilight. Nevertheless, the book has caused quite a stir… but it seems it has been outdone by its movie adaption, or at least its trailer.
Reports are now coming in that the first official trailer for Fifty Shades of Grey has made history as the most viewed trailer ever in its first week.
According to an article by CBS News, the trailer had its best opening week of any trailer this year, racking up 36.4 million views since it was released on July 24. The data was collected from technology firm Zefr, which was cited by The Hollywood Reporter.
Prior to the steamy tidbit lasting two-in-a-half minutes long releasing, the best opening week for a trailer in 2014 previously belonged to Michael Bay’s remake of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles at 31 million views. Godzilla and Transformers: Age of Extinction both garnered about 26.3 million views in their first weeks, while Dumb and Dumber Too did 23.5 million.
It should be noted the trailer doing extremely well doesn’t necessarily mean the movie will be a runaway hit. But if we follow the trend of most viewed trailers to their official releases, it might be that Fight Shades of Grey will be a box office hit. Transformers: Age of Extinction grossed over $1 billion while Godzilla grossed $507 million.
Dakota Johnson (21 Jump Street) will play the main role of Anastasia “Ana” Steele while Jamie Dornan (Once Upon A Time) will play the other main role, Christian Grey. The screenplay was written by Kelly Marcel in which the movie’s direction will be done by Sam Taylor-Johnson (Destricted)
Fifty Shades of Grey will open next year, February 13, 2015. It will take advantage of the fact it is on “Friday the 13th,” and it also happens to be Valentine’s Day weekend, too.
