Sony dominates another week of new video game releases for the week of August 3, 2014. With the Xbox 360 receiving two new titles this week and the Xbox One getting nothing until later in August with Metro Redux , Sony is releasing a bevy of indie titles as well as a rather interesting game featuring sexy undead vampires, but more on that later. Below we look at two games that stand out from the list for their originality in concept and bizarre game mechanics.
The most original new video game release goes to Metrico , a game about Infographics and free will for the PlayStation Vita. At first glance, the game looks like a virtual nightmare for office workers everywhere. Bar graphs, pyramid charts, and statistical counters fill the screen as your player moves from left to right. The PlayStation Vita exclusive was born out of an idea where Infographics were admired as an art form by developers, Digital Dreams. The game is described as “an atmospheric puzzle action game with a mindset of its own.” The game features both a male and female avatar to traverse the landscape with and gamers can start to run the gauntlet of information on August 5, 2014.
The most bizarre title in the new video game releases for the week goes to Akiba’s Trip: Undead & Undressed . The story is set in the Akihabara district of Tokyo, or Akiba for short. The district is a haven for fans of video games, anime, manga, etc. It is also the hunting ground for “Synthisters,” vampires who prey upon the life energy of those who enter Akiba. Those whom they hunt turn into social hermits due to developing a fatal aversion for sunlight.
Akiba’s Trip: Undead & Undressed follows Nanashi, a young man who has been turned into one of the walking dead after being lured into a trap placed by the Synthisters. Understandably, Nanashi is not happy with this development and his reaction is to form an organization to fight off these vampires… and, of course, the best way to fight vampires is to take advantage of their weakness to sunlight and strip them down to their underwear via brawler-style “strip” combat which targets headgear, tops, and bottoms. Those who want to undress attractive undead people can find their secret desires fulfilled on August 12 for the PlayStation 3 and PS Vita with the PlayStation 4 version launching in the holiday season of 2014.
