Kate Middleton Defied Queen Elizabeth’s Wishes For Prince George’s Birthday Party
Kate Middleton reportedly defied specific wishes Queen Elizabeth had for Prince George’s first birthday party. The Duchess of Cambridge, who is very much her own person, went ahead and planned a Peter Rabbit-themed celebration for her son at the family’s residence in Kensington Palace.
According to some reports, the Queen is not the biggest Kate Middleton fan and the two have been at odds since she married Prince William. However, apparently this has not dissuaded the Duchess from doing exactly as she pleases when it comes to the third in line to the throne. The disagreement reportedly stemmed from the fact that the monarch wanted to hold an official celebration at Balmoral Castle in Scotland.
This resulted in a 50-minute visit the Queen paid to Prince George on his first birthday, July 22. The scuffle was caused by Kate Middleton’s decision to have a family reunion where George could relax and make a mess if he so wished, rather than a stuffed up royal event.
The upcoming August edition of Life & Style magazine reports the Queen was forced to swallow her pride and come to Prince George’s birthday party organized by Kate Middleton:
“(Kate) is savoring a sweet personal victory over the queen. She was raised in a very different way from her in-laws. Kate wanted his party to be modern, fun and all about George. If he wanted to throw cake and ice cream around, she wanted him to be able to do it.”
But revenge was not the only reason Kate Middleton defied the Queen’s express wishes and held the small celebration at Kensington Palace in London. She wanted her close-knit family to be a part of the day as well, and this included inviting Kate’s parents, Carole and Michael, along with siblings Pippa and James, to join in Prince George’s birthday.
According to a source, Carole not only attended the event, but helped her daughter plan it:
“Kate’s family is very close and wouldn’t have dreamed of missing Kate, Pippa or James’ birthday parties when they were little.”
Kate Middleton’s family may have been one of the reasons the Queen only stayed for under an hour on such a special day. The same source states Her Majesty looks down on commoners being part of royal celebrations, so after 50 minutes she had had enough and left.
Kate Middleton and Prince William are following in his mother Princess Diana’s footsteps and are determined to give Prince George as normal a childhood as possible considering his station in life, despite Queen Elizabeth’s wishes.
