Gleeks were thrilled when they heard the news that Jane Lynch / Sue Sylvester would be hosting the 2011 Emmy Awards, and it looks like things are going to get even better for teen musical fanatics. Lynch expects the Glee cast to be on hand when the Emmys air this September.
Lynch said:
“I’ve pitched a couple of ideas for the Glee cast. I bet there will be an appearance. We’ve kind of been hunkering down with what the show is going to look like and what will be in it, but we will be reaching out (to the Glee cast) very, very soon.”
Lynch, who won the Emmy last year for her role as the snarky track suit wearing cheerleader coach, was nominated again for her role in Glee this year. Lynch said that she’s thankful for the hosting gig because it will keep her mind off of her nomination.
“My nerves will mostly be focused toward doing the show. It’s almost a relief not to have to think about having been nominated.”
The Hollywood Reporter notes that Lynch is just the third woman to host the Emmy Awards. Angela Lansbury hosted the show in 1993 and Ellen DeGeneres has hosted the show twice, 0nce in 2001 and again in 2005.
As for the new season of Glee , Lynch said that the story line will focus on the intimate relationships of the main cast members as they prepare for graduation. Glee creator Ryan Murphy said earlier this year that he would be true to the high school experience, and as the cast got older, they would graduate off the show.
Lynch said:
“We had a great season last year, but we kind of did go all over the place with guest stars. We had a lot of fun with that, [but ]we’re honing in on stories about these kids, especially in light of the fact several of them will be graduating at the end of the year.”
The 2011 Emmy Awards will air on September 18th on Fox. Jane Lynch is hilarious as Sue Sylvester, but will she be a funny Emmy host?
