Tara Reid: Sharknado Could Actually Happen, Though Chances Are Rare

Tara Reid think Sharknado could be something of a public service warning.

The 38-year-old actress is the star of the campy Syfy movie, which involves shark-filled tornadoes striking. While the movie is quite intentionally outrageous, that doesn’t stop Tara from believing in the real power of the Sharknado.

In an interview with GQ magazine, Tara Reid said Sharknado could actually happen.

“You know, it actually can happen,” Reid said. “I mean, the chances of it happening are very rare, but it can happen actually.”

Reid admitted that the odds of a real-life Sharknado are probably slim, but admitted that anything is possible.

“The chances of it are, like, you know, it’s like probably ‘pigs could fly,'” she told GQ. “Like, I don’t think pigs could fly, but actually sharks could be stuck in tornados. There could be a sharknado.”

The story promoted Sharknado 2: The Second One, which will premiere on Syfy this week. In the article, GQ the stars of Sharknado how they would survive if one of the shark-filled twisters actually landed. Ian Zeiring said he would turn to his character’s trusty weapon of choice.

“Get yourself the biggest, bada** chainsaw you can find and hope for the best,” he said.

Vivica Fox, who is joining the cast for the second Sharknado movie, had her own advice.

“Definitely go to the top of a roof, get some bombs and make sure you have on an awesome, powerful wetsuit,” she said.

The original Sharknado was an example of the power of social media. Though the campy movie had a lackluster debut, Twitter helped create a social media frenzy that gave it new life.

Anthony C. Ferrante, the director of both Sharknado movies, said summer 2013 was the right time for the original movie to come out.

“There were a lot of heavy, dark movies last year in theaters,” Ferrante said. “This is just a fun release, and I think sometimes people just need that.”

Even if Tara Reid thinks Sharknado could really happen, Ferrante said the film’s obviously ridiculous concept helped with audiences as well.

“We just loved the title,” Ferrante said. And once people saw the trailer, they were intrigued.

Those who want to see Tara Reid in Sharknado 2 can tune in Wednesday night on Syfy.
