Cote de Pablo’s The Dovekeepers has fans of the former NCIS star intrigued. The four-hour miniseries is headed to CBS, and de Pablo is taking on one of the key roles. From the sounds of things, this character will be quite the departure from her former role as Special Agent Ziva David on the long-running CBS fan favorite series.
CBS shares that the miniseries is being put together by Mark Burnett and Roma Downey. It is based on a historical novel by Alice Hoffman, and Cote de Pablo will play a character named Shirah. The character is a single mother who has “uncanny insights and a quiet and mysterious power.” Roman Downey says that they are anxious to have de Pablo in The Dovekeepers , noting that “Her talent, strength and beauty will light up the screen.”
De Pablo starred as Ziva David on NCIS for eight seasons, and her somewhat sudden and mysterious departure rocked fans. The show has moved on and brought in the character of Bishop, played by Emily Wickersham, to fill the void of Ziva’s absence. Though there are a number of fans who have warmed to the character of Bishop, Ziva is still sorely missed by many viewers.
Cote can also be seen in the upcoming movie The 33 , a film about the miners in Chile who were trapped for more than two months back in 2010. As Deadline notes, the film stars Juliette Binoche and Antonio Banderas, and Cote de Pablo plays the wife of one of the trapped miners. The actress was born in Chile, and her mother still lives there. The 33 is Cote’s first project since leaving NCIS .
As for Cote de Pablo in The Dovekeepers , the character of Shirah is a woman who is involved in magic, it seems, and she is considered to be the “Witch of Moab.” TV Guide explains that the historical novel shares the true story of 900 Jews who held off the Roman armies from a fortress at the Masada mountain in 70 C.E. At this point, it does not appear that the rest of the key casting decisions have been made public.
News of the actress taking on the new role has already sparked discussion from fans wishing she would head back to NCIS . Will the show’s fans flock to see Cote de Pablo in The Dovekeepers , even though the miniseries will be quite the different type of offering? CBS must think so, and the miniseries will premiere some time in 2015.
