Yes. You read that right. The new Gotham television series set to premiere on Fox this September is now rumored to have several Jokers during its run, according to Geek Tyrant.

Gotham is a new series that will concentrate on Officer Jim Gordon’s rise within the Gotham Police Department. Gotham is a straight story of crimes committed in the city that will one day be watched over by the Dark Knight. Of course, not only Batman and Jim Gordon have back stories in Gotham . The crooks have back stories too.

A still from the show was released yesterday showing actor Jon Beavres playing a character on Gotham that was doing a standup routine in a comedy club. Writer Alan Moore’s iconic The Killing Joke made the Joker’s profession pre-acid wash a comedian. This led a lot of people to believe that Beavres character on Gotham would eventually become the Joker – Batman’s arch nemesis.

Now, however, things seem different. Today, Bleeding Cool reported that Gotham would present a possible new Joker in multiple episodes of the Gotham series, leading to a mystery of sorts. Each possible Joker character revealed in the first season of Gotham will possess one of Joker’s signature features. Reportedly, one will be a card shark, one will be a flower seller, one a clown, and one may just have a very big grin.

But only one will end up as the Joker.

Some of the other criminals on Gotham have already been revealed. The character called Ivy Pepper, played by redhead Clare Foley is surely on the road to becoming Gotham’s Poison Ivy, and Camren Bicondova will play Selina Kyle, AKA Catwoman.

Cory Michael Smith plays Edward Nygma, the man that will evolve into Gotham’s Riddler, and Robin Taylor gives a performance as Oswald Cobblepot – the eventual Penguin – that will chill you to the bone.

Fox bypassed its usual pilot program – filming a pilot and deciding if a show will get a series or not – when it came to Gotham , sending it straight to series. Gotham is produced and written by Bruno Heller, and will be initially directed by Danny Cannon, who’s resume includes such shows as CSI: Miami and The Tomorrow People.

The lead role of Jim Gordon on Gotham will be played by Ben McKenzie, and Gotham’s future silent protector will be played by David Mazouz, as an elementary school-aged Bruce Wayne.

Bruce Wayne’s butler, and future confidant, Alfred Pennyworth, will be played by veteran actor, Sean Pertwee.

Gotham will premiere in September. Here’s a sneak peak.
