Lady Gaga appeared in Times Square on Thursday night for MTV First: Lady Gaga where she announced that she’ll be opening up for the 2011 Video Music Awards.
When appearing in Times Square Gaga stood on stage while a large banner was revealed which read “GAGA TO OPEN VMAs!!!”
Speaking to her crowd Gaga said:
“I have a really big announcement…”But I thought as usual, instead of me announcing it, I’d let the Little Monsters do it for me.”
Not only will Gaga be performing to start the show, she’s also up for four VMAs of her own including Best Female Video and Best Video With a Message for Born This Way and Best Art Direction and Best Choreography for Judas.
Speaking about the honor of opening the show Gaga said:
“It means the world to me…I just feel really blessed every day. I have the most amazing fans.”
The opening performance gig is a nice full circle for Gaga who didn’t perform in 2010 but instead showed fans the album title and a few lyrics for Born This Way.
You may recall that last year Lady Gaga made headlines when she wore a dress made entirely out of meat, it will be interesting to see how she tops that moment when she opens the 2011 VMAs this year.
Let’s take a quick tally, which Lady Gaga song should the songstress open her show with? Knowing her performances fairly well I have a feeling she’ll be undertaking some type of medley.
The show will begin at 9 p.m. on Sunday, August 28 at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.
