Dwyane Wade: LeBron James Will Always Be Part Of My Family
Dwyane Wade has finally spoken on LeBron James’ stunning decision to return to the Cleveland Cavaliers. And for a man who could have felt spurned when King James opted to play for his hometown Cavs rather than stay in Miami, Wade has seemingly taken the high road.
According to an article in USA Today, Wade released a statement on Saturday addressing LeBron’s departure. In it, he echoed earlier sentiments expressed by LeBron James’ open letter to Sports Illustrated on Friday when the announcement was first made public:
“As a friend and a teammate, I am sad to see my brother LeBron leave to begin a new journey,” Dwyane’s statement read. “In 2010, we decided to come together all for one goal – to win championships and we succeeded. We were friends when we first joined the league and created an unbreakable bond the past four years. Our collaboration will always be very special to me both personally and professionally. We shared something unique and he will always be part of my family.”
Wade continued:
“LeBron made the right decision for himself and his family because home is where your heart is. I know this was not an easy decision to make and I support him in returning to his roots. As an organization, a community, and as individuals, we achieved the goals we set when we first signed on together. We are champions.”
Meanwhile, Dwyane Wade has his own future to take care of first. The current Heat guard is still technically on the open market even though many around the league assumed he’d be right back in Miami after opting out of his contract. Of course, they also assumed LeBron and Chris Bosh would return as well. And while Bosh has re-signed with the Heat for a max contract, no word on where Wade goes has been made official.
According to a recent report on The Inquisitr, Dwyane could end up going to the Chicago Bulls who are actively pursuing Wade after they themselves were spurned by Carmelo Anthony, who opted to return the NY Knicks on Sunday.
Even in this wild age of NBA free agency, it would be surprising if Wade uproots himself from the only team he’s ever played for his entire career. But after LeBron James’ shocking decision to return to his hometown indicates, anything is possible.
Where do you think Dwyane Wade is headed in NBA free agency? Will he return to the Heat? Or will he do like his former teammate LeBron James and jump ship somewhere else?
